MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - CARBON CYCLE BIOENERGY FACILITY

Job Overview:

This Position will support the Maintenance Manager with respect to all plant maintenance and capital improvement initiatives.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow PM schedules, routine field inspection of all equipment, complete daily site walks to ensure equipment visual health, completing routine greasing and oiling routes, and filling out completed preventive maintenance work requisitions/ job orders completion on CMMS.
  • Identify spare parts, and consumables procurement needs and prepare requisition for approval.
  • Support in inventorying and storing of all spares, tools and consumables (oil, grease , seals, bearings etc.) maintaining records, availability of spares on time.
  • Dismantling of equipment such as blowers/pumps/motors/valves/dryers, etc.
  • Develop and maintain skills such as using forklift, hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools and examining form and texture of parts.
  • Inspecting and collecting information on parts/pipes and other equipment; using rules, calipers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Follow all safety SOPs and support fabrication of temporary lines, pipes, patch work, welding, grinding, or cutting work on site.
  • Ensure all calibration records for crane, lifting devices, etc. are always up to date and recorded.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Responsible for training/assisting junior staff and new recruits.
  • Support and supervise housekeeping or cleaning crew, ensure that the work area is kept clean free of hazards and is sanitized.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Support Operations on as needed basis.
  • Flexibility in working longer hours/overtime or weekend work will be needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Safety/ Environmental Focus

This position requires the ability to strictly follow safety practices, rules and procedures working with process equipment and mentor and coach less experienced operators in the same. Ability to look after others and communicate to them when you observe unsafe behaviors. Ability to take a proactive approach to fostering a safe work environment with a philosophy “Zero Injuries are Achievable”. Identify, report and correct unsafe working conditions and/or equipment in an efficient and timely manner. Respond quickly to emergency conditions on equipment and ability to learn equipment isolation Lock Out Tag Out procedures. Ability to work at heights and small confined spaces. Ability to Wear Personnel Protective Equipment such as but not limited to Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Goggles, Hearing Protection, Safety Shoes/Boots, Respirators, SCBA, Dust Masks, chemical suits or Electrical Proximity Suits.

 

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Relevant post-secondary education and/or trades certification and/or significant industrial training in a relevant technical field required
  • Over 5 years of progressively responsible experience maintaining industrial plant process equipment.
  • Attainment of journey-level status with work experience in industrial plant process equipment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record, the ability to become mobile crane certified, manlift and forklift certified.

 

Technical Skills

  • Have the ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and engineering specifications to maintain and repair equipment.
  • Identify the tools and equipment necessary for repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Identify parts and other materials required to maintain and repair equipment.
  • Perform basic diagnostic testing of pumps, compressors, conveyors, screws, and other large industrial machinery.
  • Ability to check machine performance, disassemble machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes or hoists.
  • Test damaged parts in comparison to specifications. Replace the damaged and worn parts if necessary.
  • Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • Clean and lubricate machinery including changing oils when required.
  • Basic pipefitting capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain records of repair and maintenance work using a CMMS system.
  • Capabilities to lead contract mechanical/electrical work activities outside the capabilities of our local staff.
  • Ability to weld is a plus.
