Job purpose

Serve as liaison between our clients/Mountain West Consulting and municipalities, contractors, and customers for new installations, upgrades, conversions, and relocations to electrical service. Ensure customer requirements and expectations are accurately understood, communicated, and executed. Design, schedule, coordinate, and ensure completion of all facets of projects from initiation through close out.


Duties and responsibilities

The following are intended to be examples of the responsibilities for the person in this role. This position description is not intended to be complete or all-­-inclusive and does not preclude management from assigning other or related functions if such functions are a logical assignment for the position.

  • Provide customer service and coordination for service installation projects including routine to complex electrical panel upgrades, relocations, conversions, maintenance, and new services.
  • Entails planning, designing, scheduling, and coordinating all facets of the project from initiation through construction, energization, and close out.
  • Determine the best source of client power, the most cost-effective design, the usability of existing equipment based on load analysis and voltage drop calculations, and the adherence to required specifications, and request of the customer.
  • Effectively interface with customers and municipalities to assess their needs, determine the scope of the project, obtain plans/maps/drawings, and make key decision regarding the layout of client facilities. Often, these decisions require consultation with our external customers and/or municipality liaison.
  • Evaluate the need to obtain easements from property owners and permits from municipal authorities; as necessary process through client right of way to obtain required easement and permits documents; and design the project.
  • Utilize Maximo to prepare service requests (SR) , work authorization (WA), and job estimates.
  • Determine and communicate customer charges required in advance of construction in accordance with client’s extension policy or municipality agreements.
  • Prepare and presents invoices to customers and manages scheduling to ensure monies collected prior to releasing jobs to crews.
  • Collaboration with intra-departmental staff to confirm customer property easements, right of way, and special permitting as needed to fulfill customer request.
  • Utilize proprietary computer platforms such as GIS mapping to identify viable power sources for our external customers.
  • Upon completion of preliminary work, release the project to construction crews and/or schedule the work with the Construction Coordinator, or other related contracted entities.
  • Conduct onsite (in field) construction meetings, of clients facilities to aid in informed decision making which best supports cost effective resolutions and proper construction of customer requested projects.
  • Trouble shoot and resolve design problems encountered throughout the project.
  • Keep internal and external departments and agencies informed of activities that affect current and future facilities.
  • May set up new accounts in Customer Care & Billing (CC&B) system, create orders for crews to run service lines, set meters, and locate client facilities; field inspect new accounts; ensure the information in CC&B is updated appropriately.
  • Update related databases and close out the project upon completion.

Requirements:

QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in customer service, design and/or construction of electrical systems/facilities. Must successfully complete training program in 90 days.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security pre-employment background check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Computer skills: Windows, Word Excel, CC&B, GIS, and work order management programs such as Maximo and Primavera.
  • Ability to understand and apply algebra and trigonometry formulas related to calculations.
  • Ability to assume project leadership and communicate effectively with customers.
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory, policies, procedures, and rates.
  • Basic drawing and engineering skills.
  • Familiarity with customer construction standards and safety manual.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Thorough working knowledge of construction standards and practices, Electric Service Requirement Manual (ESRM) specifications, extension policy provisions, service plan rates, and types of construction materials utilized.
  • Competency in the preparation of designs and cost estimates for the installation of related electrical systems/facilities.
  • Working knowledge of MLIS, MRMS, MAXIMO, WIN computer systems. Fieldwork may constitute 50% or more of this job.
  • CST and/or CHST certification preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30 – Construction Safety course completion, additional training in electrical safety, vertical construction
  • Any related certifications preferred but not required

Working conditionsWork Schedule: Work schedule is non-hybrid in office, 5 days per week with 30% field work and 70% office time in support of core job functions.
