Job Description

The Communications Coordinator I assists in developing accurate and tailored communication materials for a variety of audiences. The Communication Coordinator I provides administrative support to the project team and assists with the development, execution, and evaluation of communication programs and campaigns. The Communications Coordinator I supports the project in the preparation of client- ready written materials (e.g., communications plans and materials; progress reports, PowerPoint presentations).

***This position has a hybrid work schedule requiring employee to be on-site at North Bethesda office 2 days a week.***

***This position requires the candidate to have the ability to pass a background check and obtain/maintain federal agency security clearance and badging credentials is required.***

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides meeting support including drafting meeting agendas; scheduling and attending meetings; note-taking; and preparing meeting summaries. Provides note-taking assistance and scheduling as needed
  • Assists with the development, execution, and evaluation of communication programs and campaigns
  • Assists with the creation of dissemination and outreach plans to promote communications products
  • Assists with the development of content calendars for traditional and social media channels and for specific communications initiatives
  • Assists with developing, coordinating, and holding qualitative interviews, focus groups, surveys, and other formative research that helps gain insights into audience perspectives, needs, and preferences; assists with analyzing data/themes to draft reports based on this research
  • Assists with sending e-blasts to target audiences using online email distribution platform
  • Assists with posting social media ads
  • Works to prepare client-ready written materials (e.g., communications plans and materials; progress reports, PowerPoint presentations)
  • Tracks and manages all deliverables
  • Coordinates and monitors implementation of administrative procedures and practices, including reviewing and submitting invoices for approval
  • Assists with the development of reports and presentations including creating tables, graphs, and other visuals
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, media, communications, or related field; a combination of a degree in one of these areas and a degree, certification, or equivalent work experience in health, social science, or a medical specialty is strongly preferred

Experience: 1+ year of experience in office setting including internships and volunteer opportunities

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge strategic communications plans, supporting media campaign execution, media monitoring tools, and a range of social media platforms
  • Knowledge media relations, journalism, and/or social and other new media
  • Familiarity working on communications projects addressing topics such as public health, early childhood learning and welfare, or medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, kidney disease, weight management, digestive diseases) is strongly preferred
Soft Skills:
  • High degree of organization, attention to detail, timelines, and record keeping
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, responsive working relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage assigned work while remaining flexible and actively collaborating with colleagues
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and incorporate feedback into draft deliverables
  • Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Consistent demonstration of initiative and ongoing efforts to expand job knowledge
  • Skills in identifying issues and developing effective, innovative solutions
App Proficiency:
  • Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of email campaign software (e.g., MailChimp, GovDelivery, Constant Contact)
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics
  • Working knowledge of media monitoring programs such as Hootsuite, Meltwater, Cision
Language:
  • English fluency (oral and written)

LOCATION: Hybrid remote/onsite schedule at our North Bethesda headquarters preferred; fully remote arrangements may be considered depending on candidate qualifications and project requirements

SECURITY CLEARANCE:

Ability to pass a background check and obtain federal agency security clearance and badging credentials is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk or computer workstation.
  • Regularly uses a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Normal or corrected vision to read documents, view computer screens, and perform tasks that require visual accuracy.
  • Ability to hear and understand spoken information in person and over the phone.
  • Minimal lifting and carrying may be required, typically light office supplies or documents.
  • Ability to move within the office environment to access equipment, files, and interact with colleagues.
  • Ability to handle occasional stress related to deadlines, workloads, or challenging tasks.
