Job Summary: The position is responsible for the oversight and operations of all aspects of the Ainsworth Feed Processing site, including training, teaching, and coaching of employees daily to ensure consistent implementation of best practices within the feed mill to support productivity, optimize efficiency and safeguard the well-being of all employees.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Promote team excellence in planning, scheduling, execution of standard work, operational efficiency, and driving results, while understanding the company vision to successfully manage and support innovation to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage overall efficiency and profitability of the feed mill, including procurement of feed ingredients by seeking best cost options and sourcing grain through local farmers.
  • Oversee feed mill software programs and feed budgeting, providing suggestions based on profit and loss performance. Maintain focus on fiduciary responsibility to reduce controllable costs, including labor resources to enforce employee efficiency.
  • Partner with nutritionist and veterinarian staff on food ingredients to ensure dietary needs of animals are maintained at all times. Receive and record incoming ingredients/grains, mix and make feed to be transported to surrounding farms.
  • Ensure standard operating and biosecurity protocols are followed in accordance with company standards to support the overall health and wellbeing of all animals at farms.
  • Manage the scheduling of delivery driver routes to ensure movement of food supports the needs of surrounding farms and resolve issues quickly and efficiently to avoid disruption to production.
  • Perform general repairs on augers and machinery, including routine maintenance on all equipment. Support new construction and/or changes to existing layout.
  • Promote safe work habits and a safe working environment, ensuring all work-related injuries are properly reported, documented, and reduced through proper training and safety procedure enforcement.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the feed mill (control room, mixing area, outside, etc.), holding employees accountable for the care and cleanliness of work site. Implement best practices for environment stewardship.
  • Enforce performance management practices are in place to drive performance, reinforce positives behaviors and enhance production of team. Host regular monthly safety training, team meetings and support an environment that fosters implementation of innovative ideas.
  • Partner with Human Resources on all employment related actions.
  • Perform other duties as determined by senior leadership.

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of proven feed mill management experience required.
  • Grain marketing experience required.
  • Experience with Feed Office Enterprise software and/or other feed software program(s) preferred.
  • 2 or 4 year degree within an agriculture-based major is preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of swine production management experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Display a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work successfully with limited supervision.
  • Ability to recognize problems before they occur and take a proactive approach to resolve the issue.
  • Possess excellent problem-solving, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage confrontational situations in a fair, consistent, and prompt manner.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead by example and positively influence a group of people.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships and support organizational processes and goals.
  • Ability to work in conditions with varying temperatures, loud noise, odiferous and dust.
  • Ability to stand and walk on concreate floors for up to 9+ hours per day, with the ability repeatedly lift 55 pound bags.
  • Ability to work with moving mechanical parts while wearing required personal protective equipment and adhering to all safety standards.
  • Ability to perform the required functions of the job, including physical demands like pushing, kneeling and bending at the waist for long periods of time, climbing up/down stairs, and operating high power equipment.
  • Education Experience: HS Graduate or Equivalent
  • Years of Related Experience: 5-10 Years
  • Driver's License Required
  • Age Requirement: 18+
