The Actuarial Transformation team is responsible for developing innovative ways to manage and analyze actuarial data and processes, execute upon process improvements, as well as create new approaches to address current and evolving financial reporting and capital management needs. This Individual Contributor position plays a key role in the development and ongoing management of Empower's actuarial data warehouse, a strategic platform for Empower's corporate actuarial data in order to automate financial reporting and enable deeper insight into our business. This individual is responsible for improving and streamlining complex actuarial processes, providing better controls and allowing more time for our business partners to spend on strategic business initiatives.

This role collaborates effectively with colleagues in actuarial, finance, IT, and investments to understand their needs and build sustainable solutions that can meet those needs. In addition, the Actuarial Transformation Sr Manager manages the complete life cycle of a solution, from ideation to production release, including, understanding customer requirements, prototyping and testing solutions, continuously incorporating feedback into the solutions, staging the solutions for release with all applicable documentation and training the users on their proper use.

What you will do:

  • Assess current processes to identify gaps and develop solutions for actuarial reporting using appropriate automation tools (e.g., databases, Alteryx, Python, Excel).
  • Ensure solutions are sustainable: they solve the intended problem; they have robust controls and error handling and are thoroughly tested; they can be expanded easily to address known future requirements; they are easy for users to run; they have appropriate documentation; and they can be readily maintained.
  • Partner with all stakeholders (actuarial, finance, IT, and investments) to understand their needs and gather requirements.
  • Educate and train users on appropriate uses and limitations of tools. Refresh training on a regular basis as the solutions evolve.
  • Contributes to the development and ongoing management of Empower's actuarial data warehouse.
  • Draft and maintain user guides for solutions that allow users to maintain the solutions with minimal external involvement.
  • Train and develop departmental staff.

What you will bring:

  • Strong process engineering mindset and intellectual curiosity; ability to identify and implement improvements in processes and demonstrate ownership and accountability for the solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office including Excel, Access, and VBA required.
  • Proficiency with databases (Microsoft SQL Server, SAP HANA, Postgres) strongly preferred, along with intermediate to advanced proficiency in SQL.
  • Proficiency with coding or automation tools, such as Python or Alteryx.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Strong background in engineering, actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or computer/data science preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience
  • Actuarial qualifications (e.g., ASA, FSA, ACAS, FCAS, FCIA, FIA) preferred but not necessary.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate concepts to audiences without as much expertise.

Base Salary Range

$115,100.00 - $166,850.00

The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
