The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Utilities Department as an Utility Service Worker Crew Leader/Equipment Operator. Education/Training/Experience:


  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Four years of advanced journey-level experience in utility or public works related maintenance, and construction work.
Skills/Abilities

  • The employee holding this position is the designated heavy equipment operator.
  • Perform skilled journeyman level tasks in the maintenance, construction, and repair of water distribution, reclaim water distribution, and wastewater collection facilities.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the work of assigned staff.
  • Perform heavy manual work under varying weather conditions.
  • Apply rules, regulations, procedures, and policies to daily work assignments.
  • Observe, analyze, interpret situations, recommend, or adopt effective courses of action.
Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid California Class "A" Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a valid Grade D3 Water Distribution Operator's Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Ability to work extended hours and rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work under emergency conditions day or night and be willing to work when called any time during a 24-hour period.
  • Shall be required to go on 'After Hours' standby rotation as the second responder or first responder when required.

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
