Job Description: Our client, a large defense contractor, has an immediate opening for a 2nd Shift Engineering Technician to work from their Canonsburg, PA facility.
Qualifications: An Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent experience) is required.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire, but must be obtainable within a reasonable period of time as determined by program requirements. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Duties and Tasks:
Circuit card assembly assembly/rework including:
- Population/de-population of fine-pitch surface mount parts, BGAs, and through-hole components
- Isolation of components/circuits by lifted pins, cut traces, and kapton tape
- Repair of cut traces, lifted pads
- Addition of floating circuits to existing pads, exposed copper, and vias
- Board clean-up and mechanical securement of all modifications
- Conformal coating removal and touch-ups
Documenting all changes cable assembly/rework including:
- Initial assembly/build-up of cables per engineering drawings
- Soldering, crimping, and termination of wires to connectors, lugs, or terminal blocks
- Applying strain relief, potting, and isolation mechanisms in accordance with the drawings
- Labeling the components Performing continuity/resistance measurements, hi-pot tests
General assembly tasks including:
- Initial assembly of modules, enclosures, and rack system
- Applying proper torque to fasteners
- Use of adhesives, thermal pads
- Cable management
- Maintaining As-Built Lists
- Maintaining equipment necessary in the lab to perform tasks
- Reviewing drawings for necessary tools such as crimpers, press-fit pieces, etc. in advance of assembly
- Identification and procurement of consumables such as IPA, conformal coating touch-up pens, flux, cotton swabs, solder tips, etc.
- Tracking of equipment calibration, location, etc.
- Researching opportunities to improve the engineering team's in-house capabilities and turnaround (e.g. re-work stations, etc.)
- Communicate with the engineering team for alignment on goals and schedule
- Ability to put in extra hours when necessary to meet milestones
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Certified in IPC J-STD-001 Class 3, WHMA-A-620, IPC-7711/IPC-7721 standards
- Surface mount and through hole assembly
- Understanding of basic electrical principles
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with reading electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and re-work documentation
- Adaptability to changing environments and projects needs
- Practical problem-solving and decision making-skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage deadlines
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, and Visio Strong communication skills.
