Position Summary 

The School Safety Training Coordinator is a full-time position reporting to the Project Director.  The School Safety Training Coordinator will oversee training at the high school and serve as the primary trainer for all evidence-based practices (EBP) and programs and coordinating efforts to expand the number of school- and community-based instructors in Knott County. To ensure successful implementation of EBP like Green Dot, TGFV, and MHFA, the Student Safety Training Coordinator will coordinate and conduct training; recruit participants from teachers, school administrators, school support staff, and community members; ensure sustainability by integrating into school and community culture; become an instructor; and ensure that trainings are available on an ongoing basis to continually build skills and capacity of the school and community utilizing a trauma-informed care approach in implementing evidence-based programs and practices.  The position leads and operates with the goal that All Rural Students Succeed.    

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for STOP Violence project while working collaboratively with the school principal to implement the comprehensive project plan 
  • Continually assess needs of students, families, and school, and evaluate the impact of the STOP Violence program on these groups as well as continually modify services to best meet needs 
  • Serve as liaison with all community partners and ensure partners are trained, understand their role and implement according to their role 
  • Train students, faculty, staff, and community members in EBP 
  • Recruit additional faculty, staff, and community members as instructors in EBPs 
  • Communicate the STOP Violence mission and vision to community, parents, staff and students 
  • Assist the Project Director in writing and producing required reports 
  • Collect required data for performance measures 
  • Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist and support in the attainment of our mission, All Rural Students Succeed 

 

Position Location & Schedule 

  

The designated work location is Knott County, Kentucky. The position will be considered for hybrid work with local, state, and sometimes national travel required.  In the hybrid model, each employee is assigned a designated workplace location/office address, but some remote work is available.  Core days for hybrid work are defined.  Some regional and national training is expected. 


Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET with in-office, hybrid and/or remote work a possibility. Because of the nature of the responsibility to schools, partners, funders, and to the service region, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening and/or weekend hours. 


Minimum Qualifications

Education required to ensure success in this position: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education and/or related field 
     

Experience required to ensure success in this position: 

  • At least 3 years of experience in school safety, outreach, education and training  
  • Prior experience collaborating with community-based organizations (CBOs) and other local agencies 
  • Prior experience with safety evidence-based programs (EBPs), student voice, and trauma-informed care desired 
  • Experience providing training, case management, counseling, and facilitating groups 
  • Prior experience with Green Dot, Too Good for Drugs, and Mental Health First Aid programs desired 

 

Special skills, knowledge and abilities: 

  • Skills and knowledge coordinating a multi-faceted program 
  • Demonstrated knowledge in school reform, college and program evaluation 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and presentation skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, experience working with multi-sector teams. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task 

 

License, certification, or registration necessary: 

  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment background check 

 

Environmental conditions: 

  • Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors, students, staff, faculty, and callers 
  • Regional travel within central and southeastern KY; occasional national travel for trainings
