Join our Pharmacy Team at Exceptional Hospital Bullhead City location and be a part of the Exceptional Health Network of Hospitals in Arizona. Although we are known as small community-based hospitals, the exceptional services provided at our hospitals are comparable to larger institutions throughout Arizona.   

The Pharmacy Department at Exceptional Hospital is a full-service pharmacy, providing comprehensive, progressive pharmaceutical care services to patients from admission to discharge and on an outpatient basis through our emergency and ambulatory care services. Pharmaceutical care services at Exceptional Hospital include, but are not limited to: appropriate, accurate and timely dispensing of medications to patients, support of the electronic medical record and bedside medication verification (bar coding), ongoing pharmaceutical education to nursing staff, and participation in the care of the patient to promote safe and effective drug therapy.

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Director, pharmacist is responsible for providing clinical and operational services in an inpatient setting.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Interprets and clarifies written orders for all types of medications.
  • Prepares compounds, labels, and packages medications and pharmaceuticals, in accordance with established professional protocols and standards.
  • Secures storage of narcotics and other controlled substances on a regular basis.
  • Restock or load medications in Omnicell stations
  • Ensures all charges for dispensed medication orders are captured in hospital’s billing system.
  • Provides medications and drug information relative to circumstances and patient conditions in emergency codes in the hospital.
  • Communicates drug-related side effects, dosages, potential complications to other health care professionals.
  • Advises patients and/or their representatives on use of various medications, including dosage, side effects and composition.
  • Promotes effective use of formulary system through drug product selection and therapeutic alternative produce suggestion for non-formulary orders.
  • Monitors drug therapy as assigned by physicians; suggest alternative drug therapy when appropriate.
  • Consults with and advises medical staff personnel regarding utilization of drugs and pharmaceuticals.
  • Attends codes to assist clinical staff with medication dosing and preparation


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an AACP-accredited College of Pharmacy

EXPERIENCE: Free Standing ED or Micro Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current Arizona Pharmacist license upon hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required (ACLS requirement waived for clinical pharmacist working in the retail pharmacy department).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

    • Knowledge of drugs, possible side effects or interactions with other drugs, and how to compound medication in accordance with professional standards and practices.
    • Skill in following physicians’ orders and prescribed medications and relaying any procedures and concerns to the patient.
    • Skill in patient counseling and responding to patient’s questions or concerns.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
