Job Summary: The Medical Technologist (MT) provides technical support by performing analyses, tests, experiments, and procedures that assist in the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases. The MT/MLT operates, maintains, and calibrates the equipment used to ensure it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with physicians, laboratory staff, and medical director on all aspects of patient care
  • Uses automated equipment and specialized instrumentation to prepare samples for examination
  • Assures all testing is performed accurately by following established hospital policies and guidelines
  • Manages daily workload within the department to ensure patient testing is completed timely
  • Reviews quality control results prior to reporting any patient result and taking corrective action when needed
  • Shows leadership characteristics
  • Effectively communicates with phlebotomist and communicates collection needs
  • MT - other quality assurance duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Must have an associate degree in medical technology, chemistry, physical or biological sciences
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • ASCP Certified or equivalent required
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge of hospital laboratory practices, including infection control requirements, chemical and biological hazards
  • Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies and standards

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift to 50 pounds for routine performance of essential functions and able to lift to 100 pounds to assist fallen patients. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
