Responsibilities

Our Vocational Instructor (Nursery Management) will focus on the following curriculum

  • Nursery and Green House Management
  • Landscape Design and Maintenance
  • Harvest, Install, and Transport Plant Materials
  • Plant Irrigation and Propagation
  • Application of Chemicals
  • Integrated Pest Management training
  • Tools and Equipment Operation and Maintenance

Role and Responsibilities

Your goal will be to create a learning environment that provides inmates the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform vocational tasks. Our Vocational Instructor (Nursery Management) will focus on the following curriculum:

  • Nursery and green house management
  • Landscape Design and Maintenance
  • Harvest, install, and transport plant materials
  • Plant irrigation and propagation
  • Application of chemicals
  • Integrated pest management training
  • Tools and equipment operation and maintenance
  • Provide instruction to inmates for various labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration, and practical exercises.
  • Maintain records including testing, daily offender work, attendance and general record keeping.
  • Assess educational needs of inmates, develop lessons plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.
  • Administer, score, and interpret examinations and proficiency indicators
  • Counsel your students concerning their performance, behavior, and personal problems.

Qualifications

Competencies Required

If you have a natural ability for working in a team with a wide variety of members and you're truly driven by the joy of seeing your students thrive, this is the right job for you.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma/equivalency and five (5) years relevant wage-earning work experience required OR
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years teaching experience required.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's certificate. (Non-Certified applicants must obtain a State or Florida Educator's Certificate within twelve (12) months of hire.)
    • NOTE for Veterans/spouses ONLY:
      • If applicant is a Veteran or a Veteran's spouse (in Florida), they can apply and receive a Temporary License if they meet the following:
        • Minimum of forty-eight (48) months of military service with an honorable/medical discharge
        • Minimum of sixty (60) college credits with a 2.5 grade point average
        • Passing score on a Florida subject area examination

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently: lift or carry up to 10 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, walk, sit or stand.
  • Occasionally: lift or carry up to 20 lbs.; push or pull up to 40 lbs.
