Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Wildland Fire Division Chief to work in the INL Fire Department Training Division. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Central Facilities Area with every Friday off. Responsibilities Include:

  • Train and supervise fire department personnel as well as outside support personnel: i.e. INL heavy equipment operators, INL laborers, and mechanics.
  • Manage, input data, evaluate performance of, and provides feedback and training on areas assigned.
  • Support other program managers through strategic initiatives for all mission enabling objectives to move the department into the future in areas such as, but not limited to, inventory management software, Incident reporting, operational readiness tasks/preventive maintenance (ORT/PM) and drill field readiness.
  • Interpret, establish, and administer policies
  • Give direction, coordinate, and manage activities of others with respect to program areas of assignment.
  • Assist with organizational strategic planning by interpreting, advising, and making recommendations on any national, federal, state, or Laboratory standards or policies in the implementation of assigned programmatic and strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in the establishment of goals and objectives that affect the Emergency Services Division as well as the Fire Department expectations and policy.
  • Interact with other peer program leads/DC's, outside representatives, other federal firefighting agencies, i.e.: (Bureau of Land Management, National Wildfire Coordinating Group and Forest Service), as well as subordinates to ensure timely and appropriate assignments and prioritization of all items related to program areas assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining all training records for the Department within areas assigned.
  • Be instrumental in assisting and managing the growth and development of the organization and its members within their area of assignment, and will be relied upon to proactively identify, implement, and manage process improvements and improve organizational efficiency.
  • Respond to emergency events, at the request of the Incident Commander, to function within the command staff and provide guidance as needed within their area of responsibility.
  • Periodically relieve/act for the Deputy Chief of Training during periods of absence.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
  • Advanced Degree plus 3-6+ years of experience, OR Bachelor's degree plus 5-8+ years of experience, OR Associate's Degree plus 9-12+ years of experience, OR 13-16+ years of relative experience in lieu of degree.
  • Be certified under the requirements of IFSAC Fire Officer I, NFPA 1021 OR NWCC Single resource Boss and have the ability meet the requirements of Fire Instructor I I NFPA 1041
  • Emergency Medical Technician, State of Idaho Statute 56, 1011 "Emergency Medical Services."
  • State of Idaho Class D Drivers License
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
  • Salary Grade: PR0300 - 200 ($83,412 - $137,592) / PR0400 - 210 ($95,928 - $158,232)
