This individual will be key in identifying new disruptive technology to take our supply chain organization into the future. It will encompass Automation, New Technology, Innovations, and R&D will be responsible for externally exploring, researching, identifying, and recommending engineering technology (automated manufacturing or industrial equipment), new and proven, that will deliver safe, effective, and efficient solutions that will be applicable throughout the CHEP Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The individual will work internally closely with Engineering, Procurement, Project & Program Management, Operations, Finance, Quality, Safety, and Technical Systems groups to offer new ideas and novel solutions to solve challenges throughout manufacturing and supply chain. Leads the regional multi-functional development teams to drive the Ideation, Development, and Delivery and new technical solutions globally. Leads the process of working with outside Suppliers (OEMs; Integrators; Applied Research & Development Entities; Educational Institutions) on new technologies, and the communication with internal organizational stakeholders. Location: Field Based - Remote US, Madrid, London, Manchester, UK, Bavaria, Zurich, Copenhagen, & Montreal, Canada areas Travel requirements: International 75% Road Warrior Direct Reports: None Scope of Countries : Global - All CHEP Locations Measures Exploration and introduction of new solutions to improve the automated sortation and re-manufacturing processes within CHEP and 3PL-operated Service Centers. Increased efficiency/productivity throughout the CHEP service center network Reduction in overall manufacturing costs Securement of Intellectual Property in collaboration with IP/Legal. New Supplier On-boarding and Development Major/Key Accountabilities Identify, develop, and implement leading-edge automation solutions to be used in manufacturing, re-manufacturing, and test processes. Thoroughly document all aspects of the solutions, including specifications, requirements, design, operation, and qualification Lead ideations, designs, reviews, and acceptances. Assist in evaluation and verification/validation process, including DQ, IQ, OQ, and PQ activities. Explore Engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that affect plant operations. Locate and qualify new equipment and engineering service providers (OEMs; Integrators; Applied Research & Development Entities; Educational Institutions). Collaborate with the CHEP Procurement and Sourcing teams to drive robust supplier qualifications, performance standards and warranty strategies. Actively advocate global standardization efforts through close collaboration with other CHEP Engineering and Technology leaders globally. Drive continuous improvement efforts in the manufacturing space to increase production yields, diagnostic capability, and error proofing. Introduce and deliver innovative automated or mechanized solutions, including calculation of operating cost, design of operation flow, and selection of technology and equipment. Identify and justify through ROI analysis technology that will deliver efficiency to our business. Support, participate and perform commissioning duties as needed, including system validation, system training and documentation. Determine and enlist team resource requirements needed for deployment including but not limited to – engineering, IT, Operations, HR, Safety, and Quality. Provide project management as needed to support in deployment of new technology. Continuously improve for new technology deployment through lead robust lessons learned process. Communicate effectively with team members, operations, partners, and vendors, to include review and validation of specification documents related to technology introduction and deployment. Effectively utilize data and analytics when analyzing issues and problem solving. Provide regular updates on all aspects of new developments. Desirable Qualifications Industrial Automation Robotics Industrial Controls Machine Vision Machine Learning Required Experience Minimum of 15 years engineering and/or Applied R&D experience. Minimum of 10 years of experience working as an engineer or Supply Chain leader in a production, manufacturing and operations environment Skills & Knowledge Excellent communication and leadership skills at all levels in the organization Ability to act tactically while planning strategically. Highly skilled in capital project justification methods (ROI, IRR, NPV) Skilled in financial management with heavy focus on capital expenditure Project management and engineering tools such as MS Project and AutoCAD, Experience in DFSS, DOE and QOS a plus.
