The Office of Superintendent of Insurance regulates all insurance companies doing business in the State of New Mexico. Its role is to enforce all New Mexico laws and regulations applicable to insurance companies doing business within the state for the protection of New Mexico residents utilizing insurance company products and services.
Why does the job exist?
The Insurance Financial Analyst Supervisor position exists for the purpose of assisting the Chief Financial Analyst in managing the Financial Analysis Department to ensure insurance companies operating with the State of New Mexico are adhering to all laws and regulations of the state in accordance with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), prescribed guidance, and NAIC accreditation standards and compliance with applicable statutory accounting practices and procedures (SAPP), generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), New Mexico insurance laws, regulations, bulletins and practices and procedures, among others.
How does it get done?
The Financial Analyst Supervisor assists the Chief Financial Analyst in managing the day-to-day operations of the Financial Analysis Department including supervising and directing the work of Insurance Financial Analyst Seniors and Staff, guiding and mentoring the staff, providing performance feedback, planning and scheduling financial reviews, interviewing candidates, conducting training of personnel and performing technical research to support and challenge technical positions of insurers, among other things.

The work of the Financial Analysis Supervisor supports the Superintendent of Insurance in the mission of protecting New Mexico residents utilizing insurance products and services offered to them by both in state and out of state insurance companies.
Ideal Candidate
- Four year accounting or finance degree from accredited college or university;
- Insurance industry knowledge and awareness of National Association of Insurance Commissioner's rules and regulations;
- Supervisory experience with coaching and mentoring skills;
- Ability to work in a challenging and dynamic environment;
- Proficient knowledge in excel, word, and internet research.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelors degree in accounting, economics, finance, or related field and four (4) years of experience directly related to financial analysis of insurance companies and one of the following certifications: AFE/CFE, CPA, CPCU or APIR/PIR/SPIR.
Employment Requirements
The candidate obtained or within one year at the agency will obtain the NAIC PIR designation and continues to work towards additional certifications needed to excel in the field of insurance financial analysis and supervision of analysts, such as the NAIC SPIR and/or Society of Financial Examiners' AFE.
Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver's license, a current defensive driving course certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass Defensive Driving Course Certificate within six months of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting and a high volume of data flow. Exposure to confidential information. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25lbs. Occasional local and in-state travel may be required.
