Job Description
Job Title: Production Manager – Injection Molding
Level: Salaried/Exempt
Reports To: Plant Manager
Summary and Key Objectives:
Direct and manage all plant operations with overall responsibilities for safety, production, maintenance, quality and other production-related functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Maintain staffing head count as directed by management
· Set up daily staffing and scheduling as required by production schedule
· Daily review production reports and schedules to ensure plant will function at optimal efficiency levels
· Maintain attendance records of all direct reports
· Responsible for correcting punch errors and open conditions for direct reports in the electronic payroll system
· Ensure that all personnel are assigned and in place at start of shift
· Conduct safety investigations and fill out proper documentation
· Conduct employee conferences for direct reports
· Conduct 90-day and annual evaluations for direct reports as needed and in a timely manner
· Provide direction and training for all direct reports
· Responsible for monitoring employee performance and making modifications as needed to meet production requirements. This could include retraining, performance improvement plans or moving the employee to a new position
· Monitor and control labor and overtime costs to meet established goals
· Ensure that production equipment is operating to optimum efficiency
· Protect and safeguard all company assets as well as proprietary information and sensitive communications
· Spend sufficient time on production floor verifying safety and housekeeping compliance. Monitor resin usage, raw material storage and usage. Check for product inventory damage, stacking or handling issues.
· As needed, assist maintenance department and process technicians in troubleshooting, and repairing Injection Molding and auxiliary equipment
· Start and stop production equipment as needed
· Start and stop support equipment as needed (i.e. grinders, compressors, chillers, etc.
· Adjust material system settings as required
· Clean ink jet coders as required
· Monitor daily shift production reports
· Maintain Operation Excellence standards of housekeeping- sweeping, mopping, wiping down equipment when necessary
· Monitor finished product flow from extruder to packaging equipment. Be able to clear jams and resume process flow as needed
· Complete all required reports and paperwork
· Communicate effectively with all plant personnel
· Complete assigned daily line audits
· Manage completion of held ware and associated documentation
· Participate in monthly and annual inventory counting as assigned
· Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· High School diploma or equivalent
· Minimum five years plastics manufacturing experience on a management level
· Possess “hands on” management style
· Possess background in repair and maintenance of Injection Molding and Injection Blow Molding equipment
· Experience with Husky HyPET IMM’s, molds, and support equipment, including EOAT’s, chillers, dryers, McGuire blenders, conveyors and grinders
· Experience with Husky preforms and SIPA preforms
· Experience manufacturing preforms for Injection Blow Molding and Blow Molding of rigid plastic bottles and containers
· Possess adequate understanding of business practices to ensure that all controllable costs are held within budgetary guidelines
· Successful background in resolving customer issues relating to sales, quality, etc.
· Effectively perform all responsibilities of a production supervisor when filling in as needed
· Demonstrate ability to properly startup and shutdown all production equipment
· Demonstrate advanced knowledge and application of SPC, GMP, and OE procedures and documentation
· Demonstrate knowledge and operating ability of resin systems
· Monitor any change overs that have been scheduled for the shift
· Demonstrates the ability to make sound business decisions based on past occurrences and feedback from key team members
· Possess good people and communication skills
· Demonstrate experience and ability to provide direction and training for machine operators, Line chiefs, material handlers, utility and inspector packers
· Demonstrate the ability to successfully direct and lead a team
· Have advanced working knowledge of computer and touch screen operation
