SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in San Diego, California shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a Painter for our Nonskid Department.


Job Summary

Under general supervision, a Painter will perform routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects including, painting large structures in severe environment; performs inspections, clean ups, storage, and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment. May be required to perform additional duties as deems necessary by the Production manager for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.


Must be in San Diego, California, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties
  • Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including, aluminum, ferrous metal, interior shop coat metal, uncoated metal, accessories, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finish coating to our standards
  • Correct work as directed, any imperfections in the finish
  • Clean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and procedures
  • Use proper PPE
  • Effectively using heavy and light equipment, depending on the jobsite/assignment
  • Implement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policies
  • Travel flexibility between VA and CA.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Attentive to detail and alert always to ensure safety
  • Able to receive, and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment
  • Previous experience, especially in particular industry, 3 years preferred
  • SSPC C12 or C14 Certification

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeship

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Safety equipment required.


The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.

Other requirements:
