POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Wellness or Membership Director, and consistent with the mission of the Y, the Personal Trainer is responsible for planning and leading a range of individualized or group exercise/activity sessions for clients in a fitness specialty area. The incumbent performs a variety of fitness programs that are both educational and motivational. The incumbent follows YMCA of the USA, and Health and Fitness guidelines while providing customer service which promotes member wellness in accordance with the Y policies and procedures in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. 1. Work with the Health and Wellness Director to develop the needs of the Personal Training Program.

  1. 2. Be knowledgeable and adhere to Safety Policies, Procedures and Emergency Response Plans. Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind.

  1. 3. Perform fitness assessments including body fat composition, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular functions.

  1. 4. Promote the Personal Training Program to the members of the YMCA.

  1. 5. Setup and maintain equipment, store and secure equipment upon completion of each session.

  1. 6. Create a positive working environment which encourages and motivates others to become more involved in the YMCA.

  1. 7. Plan and instruct progressive sessions in a specialty area. Observe and discuss individual progress with participants. Motivate and guide individuals/calls and program participation. Ensure safe and effective sessions, responding to and reporting any accidents or incidents with an Incident Report Form.

  1. 8. Administer and evaluate the health history questionnaires and other pre-participation documentation regarding individual exercise programs. Administer and interpret health/fitness assessments. Track client progress and maintain appropriate documentation in participant files.

  1. 9. Instruct individual clients in proper exercise technique and use of equipment. Develop and implement individualized exercise programs including, but not limited to cardiovascular, resistance training, flexibility, balance/stability, and postural components that provide optimum results for the client. Provide encouragement and support for the client and recognize the client’s strengths and weaknesses.

  1. 10. Maintain required CEC’s and applicable national certifications.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 1. Must be 18 years of age or older.

  1. CPR Pro & First Aid Certification required within the first 30 days (training can be provided)

  1. 2. Formal training in the specialty class being taught and/or ability to demonstrate the movements and exercises recommended.

  1. 3. Education and/or equivalent knowledge related to fitness, exercise physiology, or health and wellness.
