POSITION OBJECTIVE: Under the direction of the supervisor, use computer-aided design or CAD systems to make electronic drawings and documents. The primary difference between a CAD Designer I & II is the level of experience, certifications, specialized skills, and ability to execute work with autonomy and skill.


Assignments/Procedures:

  • Use existing drawings, field notes, sketches, electronic survey data, verbal direction, and other electronic file data to prepare designs.
  • Design scope includes preliminary/final plans and elevations; topographic and/or base maps; contour maps; right-of-way maps; site layouts; sections; details; structural design drawings; architectural renderings; and environmental permitting plans.
  • Assist Project Managers in the coordination of assigned tasks using SiteTracker or other project management/workflow tools.
  • May require some field work, such as site visits.

Project Schedules/Deliverables:

  • Assist in the preparation of exhibits for proposals, expressions of interest, and contracts using CAD.
  • Complete assignments in the specific periods requested while ensuring accuracy, completeness, quality, and thoroughness of results.
  • Meet or exceed company standards for productivity/utilization targets.
  • This position is required to coordinate the work performed by other Designers to ensure successful completion. Continuous Improvement:
  • Be familiar with and utilize accepted CAD standards/best practices in the execution of the work as directed by your supervisor.
  • Ensure that the work conforms to company standards and Quality Plan.
  • Provide input and assistance in investigating new techniques and methods that may increase the Company’s efficiency.
  • Incorporate cutting-edge applications to achieve the desired result on projects.
  • Alert supervisor of any issues that may affect client relations.
  • Prepare presentation graphics for client and/or public meetings.
  • Attend client and/or public meetings with the Project Manager, as required.

Competencies and Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience using CAD or similar programs.
  • 3+ years of experience working within the wireless sector.
  • High School diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous technical training in CAD is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
  • Basic technical competency, verbal and written communications skills, pre-hire CAD test, ability to participate in occasional field work.
  • As required by discipline, take training courses/secure certifications in various specialized areas.
  • Able to effectively collaborate with employees at all professional levels and ability to respectfully follow supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills are highly desired.

ADA compliance:

  • Office work environment with the ability to traverse field sites of varying conditions and terrain, and the visual acuity necessary for reading plans and drawings.
  • This may include the use of ladders and other equipment.
  • OSHA requirements:
  • If the employee is required to work at potentially hazardous waste sites and/or with hazardous materials as defined by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, he/she will be required to attend initial and annual training and to pass an annual physical exam.
  • The physical is to ensure that employees may work safely at hazardous-waste sites and properly wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Potential need to attend courses for other OSHA-related matters (such as confined space).
