Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for the provision of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) care and treatment to persons in our community.  In time, the NP may also provide HIV health care to patients. 


The NP must be able to clearly communicate in ways that are understandable to the patient.  They need interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange or convey sensitive personal information to patients while putting them at ease.  They must feel comfortable working with diverse populations, including patients, staff, supervisor, and Board of Directors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid/current, unencumbered Arizona Nurse Practitioner (NP) license
  • Valid/current, unencumbered federal DEA license
  • Good communication, attention to detail, and administration of quality care.
  • Current CPR/BLS and/or ACLS certification

Preferred, but not required

  • Full time position
  • HIV Medicine Specialty Certification; Infectious Disease Specialty; or other relevant/comparable experience/training combination
  • Experience with quality assurance, STIs, and/or infectious disease.
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish


Scope of Work

  • Analyze and interpret patients’ history, physical findings, symptoms, and diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses and implement treatment plans.
  • Prescribe, order, treat, and provide referral/consultation for patients, as needed.
  • Provide education and interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Counsel patients about drug regimens, virological failure, and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as OTC medications and herbal remedies.
  • Follow all federal, state, nursing, and organizational guidelines, regulations, and standards.
  • Document all interactions in the patient’s Electronic Health Records.
  • On call Tele-PEP for potential emergent exposures in our community, which may include after-hours or weekends call emergencies to counsel and initiate a prescription (HIV prevention medications are required to be started within 72 hours after possible exposure).
  • Work with others to develop new programs to serve our patients.
  • Participate in on-call coverage for other providers, as needed.
  • Collaborates with other providers and staff, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, push/pulling
  • Occasional lifting of 20-50 pounds


Supervisory Reporting Structure

The Nurse Practitioner works in conjunction with the Medical Director and under the direction of the Executive Director.
