Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) manages the 10-year, $2.1 Billion Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office.

N3B is a limited liability company owned by HII Nuclear Inc. and BWX Technologies, joined by our critical subcontractors Longenecker and Associates and Tech2 Solutions.

N3B brings operational discipline, proven approaches and predictable results to the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract.

Position Location:

This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Position Summary:

N3B is seeking a professional, enthusiastic and energetic individual to fill the position of a Systems Application Analyst.

This individual will be in a critical position on this fast-paced and fun program working in a primarily Microsoft shop running 100% virtualized environment. The individual will be responsible for supporting the user community in use of the application; installing and testing new releases; collaborating with the development team, both local and remote on issues and potential solutions or workarounds. Application and application data support of various custom and COTS applications. The onsite support must quickly become knowledgeable on system functionality and the domain-specific data.

This position reports to the N3B IT Director of Applications.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

  • Application Support. Provide application support for COTS and custom code written in .NET. This will require a privileged access to a DISA information system, which will have an ability to access and control functions of the information system/network, administration of user accounts, etc.
  • Focused support on one or more of the following Application and modules:
    • Devonway and Devonway modules
    • Atlassian Jira workflows and multiple plugins
    • Atlassian Confluence and its plugins.
    • Patching Windows and Linux and patch management
    • User support and permission management
    • CTS Open range
    • Deltek Costpoint, Cobra, and Acumen
    • Custom Applications
    • Oracle Primavera P6
    • Documentum
  • Application Support duties. Provide support for the application support duties as defined in the subtasks below.
    1. Installation Support.
    2. Additional experience and knowledge of DOE preferred.
    3. Knowledge and support with one or more of the following: IIS, Apache, Tomcat, Weblogic, and Websphere.
    4. Knowledge of web application engines like drupal or wordpress preferred.
    5. Vulnerability and upgrade support.
    6. Data and security support.
    7. Administration support:
      • Interface and solve issues with customers
      • Interface and solve issues with vendor
      • Perform tier 3 troubleshooting and fixing before engaging vendor support.
    8. Implementation Support. Provide application support for implementation activities to include plan, perform and implement installations and upgrades and implement/sustain middleware application components.
    9. Provide, perform, and document all application test activities. These include unit/component testing, integration testing, system testing, and acceptance testing.
    10. Project management and meeting facilitation.
    11. Demo of products.
    12. Trainings and heavy documentation.
    13. Project requirement gathering.
    14. Heavy documenting and instruction for IT and for customers.
    15. Demo and presentation to management.
    16. Application maintenance support. Provide application support for maintenance activities to include improving performance with available tools, checking application for problems and reviewing operations to ensure only valid processes are running, optimizing the functionality of application software, diagnosing and recovering failed applications and maintaining application integrity, performance and availability.
    17. Monitoring Support. Provide application support for monitoring activities to include monitoring performance of and taking proactive measures to prevent service disruption.
    18. Web Administration Support. (Mission Essential) Provide application support for web administration activities to include creating Internet Information Services (IIS) web sites and installing, configuring and managing web applications.
    19. Troubleshooting Support. Provide application support for troubleshooting activities to include identifying what the problem is, gathering more details, eliminating variables, reproducing the problem, development of hypothesis of root cause and attempting a fix based on findings
    20. Repair Support. (Mission Essential) Provide application support for repair activities to include patching, updating, and documentation of software modification for future use. Repairs include such things as backing out coding and patching changes, applying patches/code fixes and fixing database errors/issues.
    21. Application Security Administration Support. (Mission Essential) Provide support for application security administration to include applying STIG applications, developing procedures for responding to new threats to systems to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability, ensuring the rigorous application of information Security/information assurance policies, principles and practices in the delivery of application services, streamlining security using managed accounts and controlling access with permissions and roles
    22. General understanding of systems, networking, linux, and oracle a plus.
    23. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

  • Expert knowledge and ability to develop and apply highly advanced principles, concepts and techniques in environmental program and project management, performance measurement and technical communication
  • Self-starter with initiative to take on ownership of tasks. This self-starter must be able to work without constant supervision.
  • Experience performing critical strategic tasks, interpreting requirements, and executing plans to satisfy them
  • Proven experience in environmental project and program management, working with state and federal regulators, and policy development
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and enabling users and coworkers to be successful in in their roles, to include human resource elements such as training, assigning, scheduling, coaching and counseling employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures

  • Documentation, testing, test cases, and user instructions.
  • Skilled in training and mentoring staff to higher levels of performance
    1. Including documentation for users, admins, and instructors.
  • Solid understanding of the Department of Energy environmental program and operations
  • Proficient in MS Office to include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to be self-directed balancing a myriad of high-priority projects.

  • All qualified applicants will be considered; however, the successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance from the United States Department of Energy.
  • Preferred:
    1. Project Management highly desired.
    2. Skilled working with T/SQL and .NET preferred.
    3. Knowledge of workflow, ERPs and general coding skills highly desired.
    4. Experience with other IT Application Analyst/Developer subject matter area technology.
    5. SQL Server or SQL programming MCITP or equivalent

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelors' degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline combined with at least 5 years of IT application administration (System administration, analyst, or software developer) experience is preferred. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities of which can be adequately demonstrated is acceptable.

Education Equivalency: 2 years of relevant experience for 1 year of college.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements conducive to a normal office environment. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
