DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY
The Cyber Security Manager installs, maintains and operates the cyber security systems used by the College.  This position will monitor the College computers and devices to ensure that security systems are current, compliant and consistent with industry best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Installs, configures, and maintains the cyber security systems used by the College.
  • Monitors network security systems to detect unauthorized or inappropriate use.
  • Safeguards information systems assets by identifying and solving potential and actual security problems.
  • Protects system by defining access privileges, control structures, and resources.
  • Ensure all computers have current anti-virus software functional.
  • Monitor that Microsoft security and update patches are being installed. Coordinate with the System and Network Manager, and Desktop Specialists to solve the problems. 
  • Recommends, implements, and ensures systems security.
  • Troubleshoots problems with computer security systems and implements resolutions.
  • Implements security procedures, monitors user activity, identifies network vulnerabilities, determines user authorizations and system privileges, and performs user setups.
Ensures that the College security systems are current, compliant and consistent with industry best practices.
  • Monitors systems for performance and security.
  • Develops disaster recovery plans along with enterprise anti-virus and patch management infrastructure.
  • Evaluates equipment and software capability; researches and resolves problems; makes technical recommendations.
  • Reviews vendor software bulletins to prevent potential problems; installs updates and modifications as required; confers with program product vendors regarding new product releases and problem resolutions.
  • Monitor ongoing cyber-attacks and systems exploits to implement protections at the College.
Monitors network traffic to detect and prevent unauthorized activity.
  • Use network monitoring tools such as a packet shaper, email firewall and a network firewall to monitor and restrict network traffic.
  • Monitor for compliance with Board policies, administrative procedures, state and federal laws.
  • Monitor network activity for denial-of-service attacks.
  • Monitor data storage for suspicious data traffic.
  • Provide a monthly report to the Director of IS on cyber security.
Arrange training for staff in cyber security detection and prevention.
  • Work with staff to recommend cyber security training to employees and students.
  • Use Barracuda email campaigns as a way to evaluate the College?s response to phishing and spam attacks. 
  • Participate in training during employee onboarding. 
  • Provide end user support and troubleshoot issues when necessary.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sits on various college committees as may be assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE:

  • Thorough knowledge of network protocols, network topography, network security principles, Windows domain services, Azure AD and Office 365.
  • Ability and willingness to stay current with new technology.
  • Self-motivated learner.
  • Extensive knowledge in networking, and network equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Infrequently lifts and carries items up to 50 lbs., bends, stoops and kneels.
  • Prolonged standing, sitting and use of computers.
  • Learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding functions. 

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Cyber Security or related field; or four (4) years of experience in the Cyber Security field.
  • Experience with managing firewalls, WatchGuard experience preferred.
  • Experience with email gateways services (Barracuda). 
  • Network administration experience.
  • Windows network and operating system experience.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies.
