Auto Appraiser Claim Representative II (Florida) - The Auto Club Group

What you will do:

The Auto Club Group is seeking a prospective Auto Appraiser Claim Representative II who can work under minimal supervision, this job appraises a wide range of automobile or other vehicle damage of significant magnitude to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlement. Experience with auto Subrogation claims is a plus. This position is based in Tampa, Florida with the potential to work from home in the future. Its highly preferable that the candidate is local to the Tampa Bay area.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Examining damaged vehicle to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical, electrical, or interior damage.
  • Estimating cost of labor and parts to repair or replace each item of damage, using standard automotive labor and parts cost and knowledge of automotive repair.
  • Determining salvage value on total-loss vehicle.
  • Evaluating practicality of repair as opposed to payment of market value of vehicle before accident.
  • Preparing insurance forms to indicate repair-cost estimates and recommendations.
  • Reviewing repair-cost estimates with automobile repair shop to secure agreement on cost of repairs.
  • Workings with other Appraisers as required to get additional reviews from them to resolve disagreement with repair shop on repair cost. May secure agreement with automobile repair shop on cost of repair.
  • Conducting training for new appraisal team members to include software usage.
  • Conducting quality control audits on staff, independent contractors and direct repair facilities.
  • Approve and issue payments for the appropriate parties accordingly.
  • Thoroughly document and/or code the claim file and complete all claim closure and related activities in the assigned claims management system.
  • Utilize strong negotiating skills for making total loss settlements.
  • Recovery unit will complete recovery tasks on moderately complex claims for all lines of business. The tasks may not cover the entire lifecycle of a claim but will be an expansion of those aspects related to the financial recovery of funds previously paid on a claim from liable parties or other insurance carriers.
  • Evaluate and present proofs to support both liability and damage decisions.
  • Apply knowledge of venues, negligence laws and case laws associated with recovery for the state of Florida to determine handling strategies.
  • Participate in the arbitration process as an applicant, respondent-counter applicant and as an arbitrator rendering decisions on cases presented to Arbitration Forums.
  • Negotiate, settle, and recover receipts; ensuring that funds recovered are accounted for appropriately and settlements are maximized.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications (these are the minimum requirements to qualify)

Education (include minimum education and any licensing/certifications):

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience.
  • In states where an Adjuster's license is required, the candidate must have a Florida State Adjuster's license.
  • Must have a valid State Driver's License

Experience:

Three years of demonstrated successful, increasing responsibility as an Appraiser.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of automobile appraisal process, including use of applicable software and other tools that are available.
  • Ability to lead and guide others in the appraisal work functions.
  • Ability to communicated well both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong ability to review and appraise damaged vehicles in a manner that strives to meet both the insured and the Company's expectations for resolution.
  • Be detail-oriented with good time management skill.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of automobile appraisal process, including use of applicable software and other tools that are available.
  • Ability to lead and guide others in the appraisal work functions.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong ability to review and appraise damaged vehicles in a manner that strives to meet both the insured and the Company's expectations for resolution.
  • Be detail-oriented with good time management skills.
  • Experience in quality assurance and auditing of appraisals and related documentation is preferred.
  • Fluency in CCC Pathways estimating platform.
  • Ability to negotiate agreed prices with repair facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Insurance or a related field (preferred) or the equivalent in related work experience
  • Completion of the Insurance Institute of America's: General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, associate in management or equivalent (preferred)
  • CPCU coursework or designation (preferred)
  • Completed a Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience.
  • In states where an Adjuster's license is required, the candidate must have an active state adjuster license (active FL 620 required)
  • Must have a valid State Driver's License

Experience:

  • Five years of experience with:
  • Negotiating claim settlements
  • Securing and evaluating evidence
  • Preparing manual and electronic estimates
  • Subrogation claims
  • Resolving coverage questions
  • Taking statements
  • Establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of:

  • Essential Insurance Act
  • Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims.
  • Subrogation procedures and processes
  • Intercompany arbitration

Ability to:

  • Handle claims to the line Claim Handling Standards
  • Follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Work within assigned ACG Claim systems including basic PC software.
  • Perform basic claim file review and investigations.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrate customer service skills by building and maintaining relationships with insureds/claimants while exhibiting understanding of their problems and responding to questions and concerns.
  • Analyze and solve problems while demonstrating sound decision-making skills.
  • Prioritize claim related functions.
  • Process time sensitive data and information from multiple sources.
  • Manage time, organize, and plan workload and responsibilities.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle to visit repair facilities, homes (for inspections), patients, etc.
  • Research analyze and interpret subrogation laws in various states.
  • Travel outside of assigned territory which may involve overnight stay.
  • Relocate, work evenings or weekends.
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Must Reside in the State of Florida near the Tampa Bay area

Work Environment

  • This is a hybrid work arrangement (time spent in office and remote). Depending on the employee's role and leadership's assessment, some employees will come into an ACG facility on a weekly basis, a monthly basis, or on an "as needed" basis for key meetings and collaborative activities. Most employees will be required to come into the office, at a minimum, for important departmental meetings or teambuilding events.
