Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Project Management Associate Director who is ready to rise to the next level in their career. As a Project Management Associate Director, you will be in charge of one or more high priority projects within the Technology Development and Operations (TDO) organization. In this role, you will lead, mentor, and supervise a team of assigned engineers and contractors in a project or project portfolio of new revenue generating services for the company. This role has a high degree of collaboration with other teams in order to deliver successful solutions and navigate interdependencies in a matrix environment. What You'll Do:

    Manage a portfolio of related projects or a single large project, typically of portfolio/project value > $25M
  • Be responsible for project planning, including schedules, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities and defining processes required for projects or portfolios of projects
  • Oversee financial performance, including seeking approvals and management of project budgets
  • Be in charge of resource planning and management, which includes coordinating the project team and resolving team conflicts as well as leading project teams to fulfill the project mission and meet project goals
  • Be accountable for the resolution of significant issues and risks and implement lessons learned. This includes helping technical teams work through tradeoffs between schedule, cost and capabilities.
  • Provide status reports for complex project and project schedules, leading internal and external teams to execute the full spectrum of the project
  • Complete project ownership from concept, award (for externally funded projects), through planning and final delivery while actively managing quality and financial performance of assigned projects
  • Formulate project execution including gates, milestones, deliverables, and acquisition including make or buy decisions, subcontracting, etc.
  • Participate in major milestone meetings with internal or external customers (ex. SRR, CDR, FAT) and senior officials to communicate status and/or implement Agile or Scaled Agile development practices
  • Portray the company's expectations and requirements to the engineering, development, test, and deployment teams to ensure alignment
  • Initiate pro-active correspondence to communicate project status, on-going financial viability, and identification of key issues to senior management
  • Work with other project/program managers to support the development, documentation, and training of Project Management best practices
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in satellite, telcomm, and/or telcomm user equipment space, or related industry
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information, drive discussion, and respond to difficult scenarios with limited preparation across all employee groups
  • Strong technical background and experience with system level projects
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and exemplifying commitment to your team's goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and actively promote cross-functional team building
  • Able to confidently drive discussions, raise support for key ideas, and tailor your communication style to a wide range of audiences
  • Possess the creativity, resourcefulness, and decisiveness needed to manage risks and respond to critical situations
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Excellent prioritization skills and the ability to effectively coordinate the activities of multiple groups

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • PMI/PMP Certification preferred
  • Master's degree in Engineering preferred

We'll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel approximately 1 week/month+ depending on project and management needs
  • Be a U.S. citizen

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
