Position: Paralegal

Location:  Chantilly, VA, | Chicago, IL 

Full Time: Yes (Fully Remote) Flexibility for in-office days as necessary

Salary range: $95,000-125,000

Summary:

Under the general direction of the Managing Partner, and specific direction of Client Team Leaders, Attorneys, Senior Advisors, Advisors and Analysts, the Paralegal position provides assistance in all phases of client engagements.  This person must be well organized, flexible, and able to work independently with little or no supervision, and have a good understanding of both office and legal processes and procedures. Position calls for excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment. position is fully remote and requires flexibility for in-office days as necessary.  Candidates must be located in the Chantilly, VA or Chicago, IL commuting area.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Client Matter / Project Management

 

  • Facilitate internal communications by drafting and circulating schedules and tasks and managing team emails and distribution lists. 

  • Act as primary point of contact to maintain charters and plans, melding input and feedback from Advisors/Analysts and Attorneys.

  • Document meeting minutes and interview notes and circulate for review and finalization.

  • Coordinate client communications, including, but not limited to, setting up meetings and coordinating schedules.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on issues in a timely manner

 

Litigation Case Management

 

  • Maintain case filings according to firm standards.

  • Assist the firm case teams in the development of materials in support of client litigation matters. 

  • Create and modify documents such as reports, memorandums, letters, invoices, using word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, database and/or other Firm software.

  • Monitor client litigation dockets as necessary.

  • Communicate with client legal department personnel and litigation service providers as necessary.

 

Content Management

  • Maintain and update content of matter-related tools, including Firm intranet, client contacts, calendars, project plans and workflow tracking.

  • Manage internal document management process for designated administrative initiatives or client engagements (i.e., ensure all engagement documents are appropriately filed on Firm network storage systems / software as specified by the Firm and/or client teams, respond timely to requests from client teams for current versions of client documents, deliverables, research materials, etc.).

 

 Production and Packaging of Deliverables

  • Assist in the drafting, organization and editing of client deliverables.

  • Review deliverables for completeness and standardization of style and format.

  • Oversee logistics of actual delivery, including printing, media generation and physical presentation to client.

 

Investigation and Research

  • Utilize search tools to acquire project-specific knowledge.

 

General

 

  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client and staff information Utilize search tools to acquire project-specific knowledge.

  • Interact with Firm personnel, clients and vendors.

  • Other related duties as assigned

 

Essential Skills:

  • Written and oral communication skills in English

  • Critical thinker, with excellent analytical abilities essential

  • Strong sense of urgency and the ability to handle time pressures, anticipating and responding to the needs of internal and external clients while successfully coordinating and prioritizing multiple projects at the same time. 

  • Well-developed sense of when to act independently versus consulting with the lead attorney and others on any matter.

  • Computer / Microsoft office productivity software skills, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project   

  • Proven blue booking/cite checking ability

  • Ability to function in a high energy fast paced environment 

  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group 

  • Ability to maintain an atmosphere where team spirit thrives on cooperation, trust, and empowerment

  • Ability to maintain thorough and open communications - whether the information is positive or negative, by relaying this information as quickly and accurately as possible to their supervisor and other affected team members

  • Prior experience with OrionLaw software or other similar business ERP or accounting packagesOrion

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred   

  • Paralegal Certificate preferred

  • 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area preferred
