Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) manages the 10-year, $2.1 billion Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office.

N3B is a limited liability company owned by HII Nuclear Inc. and BWX Technologies, joined by our critical subcontractors Longenecker and Associates and Tech2 Solutions.

N3B brings operational discipline, proven approaches and predictable results to the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract.

Position Location:

This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Position Summary:

The Nuclear Operator (NO) is the primary field interface between TA-54 Facility Operations and Waste Operations, Maintenance, and the Environment, Safety, and Health organizations.

This position reports to the Shift Operations Supervisor (SOS)

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

  • Performance of Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) surveillances and inspections
  • Performance of daily rounds, inspections and walk downs to maintain facility equipment and structure configuration within established operating limits.
  • Implement and comply with Conduct of Operations Program elements.
  • Maintain written logs.
  • Be knowledgeable of the facility safety, security, and compliance envelope.
  • Be knowledgeable of current status of the facility as well as its systems and equipment.
  • Be knowledgeable of a wide variety of facility waste operations and maintenance activities on a daily basis.
  • Keep SOS and the TA-54 Operations Center advised of operational status of area facilities and report abnormal/emergency conditions.
  • Maintain the status of the facility physical plant, proper system alignments and approved configurations.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Suite, Adobe and other business type applications.

Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge:

Position level will be based on experience and knowledge

Nuclear Operator 1

General knowledge of Conduct of Operations and Formality of Operations

Nuclear Operator 2

Knowledge of current TA-54 configuration, and TSR surveillances requirements.

Current TA-54 Resident access and familiarity with TA-54 facility and waste operations.

Education and Experience Required:

Nuclear Operator 1: High School diploma or GED with zero years of relative experience.

Nuclear Operator 2: High School diploma or GED and 2 years of nuclear experience.

Business Associate:

Level 1: Contacts are primarily within immediate work unit. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information requiring little explanation or interpretation.

Level 2: Contacts are typically with individuals within own department and occasionally with contacts outside own organization. Contacts involved obtaining or providing information or data requiring some explanation or interpretation.

Impact:

Level 1: Errors can easily and quickly detected within the immediate work unit and would result only in minor disruption or expense of correct.

Level 2: Errors may be detected and corrected but may cause moderate loss of time or customer/user dissatisfaction.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Work outdoors and in an office environment. Work outdoors may involve: hot/cold environments, inclement weather, work near heavy equipment, work involving hazardous and radioactive materials. Work hours involve periodically working overtime, weekends and holidays.

While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Nuclear Operator will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
