Overview

This is an ENTRY LEVEL mechanic position; any amount of experience with small engines or related field is a plus but not required. Candidate MUST show interest and willingness to learn all golf course specific operation and equipment including reel grinding, setting, and squaring reels, the relationship of reels to affects of turfgrass, minor electrical, sprayer equipment, and much more.

This is a great opportunity to learn more than only mechanical work such as pump mechanics, irrigation, hydraulic systems, and welding.

The assistant mechanic reports directly to the Lead Assistant Golf Course Superintendent as well as the Head Equipment Manager and assists overseeing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for the golf course assets. The assistant mechanic may be asked to perform other jobs outside of the shop including mowing, cleaning of paths, and other jobs related to the golf course. The equipment manager places safety as a top priority for all aspects of this position.

Employment standards & Functions

  • Assists Head Mechanic in all aspects of shop operations including but not limited to oil changes, tires, organization and cleanliness
  • Assists in all day-to-day operation of equipment
  • Overhauls and repairs maintenance vehicles, mowing equipment, and other power equipment
  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair
  • Inspects, changes and repairs tires
  • Cleans work areas after repair work is completed
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
  • Assists in fabricating, body repair and painting
  • Adjusts cutting units on mowing equipment
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.
  • When servicing equipment is complete, or when needed, will assist on maintenance crew and may operate equipment
  • Ability to move heavy objects. Up to 50 lbs
  • May be called upon to operate or train various types of maintenance equipment
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Graduate from High School or GED
  • Ability to repair and willing to learn all aspects of golf course equipment is required
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Complete background authorization for E-Verify
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is extremely helpful
  • Shift starts between 4:00 to 6:00 AM
