About truCurrent and Distributed Sun

truCurrent, a Distributed Sun microgrid, mobility, and virtual power company, provides end-to-end energy transition services for Fortune 500 companies and other large enterprises. truCurrent integrates on-site distributed energy resources (DERs) with microgrid infrastructure, virtual power plants (VPPs), and off-site clean energy generation aligned to regulatory and capital markets to deliver next-generation power plants at the grid edge.

Trusted partners rely upon our energy transition roadmap services combined with best-in-class development and financing solutions to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and meet or exceed their environmental goals. We deploy infrastructure that reduces total cost of ownership (TCO), provides resilient and reliable electricity, and optimizes energy consumption to meet business objectives.

Distributed Sun (DSUN) is a clean energy infrastructure provider founded in 2009 that develops, finances, owns, and operates solar and battery storage projects across the community solar, commercial and industrial (C&I), and utility-scale markets. It is among the largest community solar developers in the country and has developed and delivered systems in 17 states.

About the Role

The Senior Director of Project Finance will play a critical role in formulating and implementing innovative financial solutions for truCurrent’s customers by engaging with the company’s capital partners and investors. We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record of successful deal execution and a strong background in financial modeling covering a variety of capital structures, including tax equity partnerships and as-a-service contracts. The ideal candidate has the ability to lead financial initiatives while actively supporting other members of the truCurrent team and stays current on new policy, regulatory, and tax-related developments in a constantly evolving industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and management of complex financial models for the company’s multi-asset class projects, optimizing contract structures to maximize value to truCurrent and its customers
  • Spearhead the development of specialized financial structures, targeting areas such as transactive grid services, as-a-service offerings, electric vehicle charging, and asset securitization
  • Manage the structuring and negotiation of project-level debt, tax equity, and other capital investments
  • Interface with current and prospective capital partners, including private equity funds, banks, tax equity investors, strategic investors, and government entities
  • Coordinate approval and closing processes with internal and external stakeholders, managing transaction teams and leading junior members on financial analysis and diligence
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial model inputs with up-to-date market intelligence
  • Continually monitor structured energy transactions and available capital to advance truCurrent's internal financing efforts
  • Conduct macroeconomic analyses, focusing on tax and accounting laws and broader sector trends and policies
  • Direct financial data visualization efforts by incorporating new approaches and methodologies that are grounded in data-based recommendations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and regulatory filings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field required; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience of increasing responsibility in clean energy project finance roles for DERs, microgrids, VPPs, and utility-scale clean energy projects
  • A proven track record of successful deal execution in the clean energy sector, with an emphasis on nascent technologies and electrification solutions
  • Deep knowledge of innovative solutions to address customer sustainability objectives, including as-a-service contracts in the context of multi-state, multi-technology deployments
  • Strong financial modelling skills for multi-asset class projects
  • Expert in Microsoft Office and data visualization software such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team, often balancing competing priorities with little supervision
  • Experience in building effective teams and driving results with various stakeholder groups

Benefits

  • Bonus compensation plan
  • Equity option award
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits plan
  • Career and professional development
