Position Description

The Business Office Manager is expected to support the school-wide goals of creating a high-quality educational program that addresses the individual needs and aspirations of each of our scholars. As the “gatekeeper” for many visitors, parents, scholar-supporting professionals, and colleagues, the Business Office Manager is often the first point of contact for the organization and is expected to act in a pleasant and professional manner. This position will be in a juvenile correctional setting.


Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating all general office communication systems, including phone and email correspondence, incoming and outgoing mail, and incoming and outgoing faxes to ensure timely, effective routing of accurate information
  • Producing and distributing the daily update and student roster in an accurate and timely manner
  • Managing the daily attendance and sign-in process for staff
  • Working with staff to gain access for visitors and materials needed by the SFF/MAS
  • Working with staff to acquire and maintain functioning access badges
  • Processing and monitoring facility work order requests
  • Maintaining a well-organized and well-stocked inventory of office/school supplies
  • Ordering/purchasing refreshments/meals/goodies for various school events in an appropriate and cost-effective manner
  • Maintaining all office equipment
  • Working with the Admin team to produce the monthly report/invoice to DYRS
  • Drafting and updating the annual school calendar
  • Managing several key areas for a successful awards ceremony process (sending out nomination ballots; tallying returned ballots; sending out award templates to staff; creating gym awards; ordering/updating award winners plaques)
  • Supporting the work of the principal and other staff on an as-needed basis
  • Helping to create a positive environment and a culture of hope and high expectations for all students
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills are required
  • The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects
  • The ability to work well with a team
  • Embrace a school culture that requires all staff to work beyond the traditional school hours and school year in order to create an environment filled with hope and high expectations, where students will radically improve their academic, employment, and social skills

The Youth Services Center (YSC) is the District of Columbia’s detention center for male and female youth, responsible for the care and custody of young people placed in secure detention by court order from the DC Superior Court Family Court Division.
