Description:

Custodian and Maintenance Associate are responsible for overseeing and performing all facilities maintenance functions, including cleaning and maintenance of all three school buildings. These duties include cleaning and vacuuming offices, classrooms, and common areas as well as sanitizing bathrooms daily. They also empty the trash and empty/clean refrigerators. They will maintain an appropriate inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies and maintain grounds in proper condition. Maintenance duties include but are not limited to mechanical, routine repairs as scheduled or as necessary, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. The Custodian and Maintenance Associate will oversee and manage the full cycle building maintenance, repairs, cleaning activities, and related facility projects completed by outside vendors to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and local building codes. They will communicate regularly with the School Director regarding the status of the buildings.

Position Type: Non-Exempt, Admin

Hours: Monday-Friday, 12:00pm -6:30pm with a 30-minute lunch break.

May include occasional evenings and weekends as needed for school and marketing events.

Essential Functions

Cleaning:

  • Perform duties to ensure the cleanliness of offices, classrooms, and common areas.
  • Collect trash and recyclables and deposit it outside properly.
  • Vacuum carpets daily and shampoos carpets when needed.
  • Maintain and store equipment and cleaning tools.

Maintenance:

  • Strip, wax, and buff hallways when assigned.
  • Performs a variety of routine servicing, repairs, and installation operations to school buildings, equipment, furnishings, and fixtures.
  • Analyzes projects, develops information for bidding, and collects estimates from vendor and contractors.
  • Coordinates service and repair of facility systems.
  • Manages contact with outside vendors and contractors as necessary.
  • Maintain grounds in proper order, including lawn care.
  • Change light bulbs, prepare surfaces, and apply paint as needed.

Building Support:

  • Lifts, moves, and transports all types of supplies, equipment, and furniture when needed.
  • Facilitates set-up and break down of chairs and tables for events when necessary.
  • Responds to pages for emergency cleaning needs in a timely fashion when needed.
  • Orders and maintains inventory and storage of building cleaning and maintenance supplies.
  • Assists with monitoring and facilitation of safety drill procedures.

Budget / Compliance:

  • Assists with required inspections from Health and Fire Departments annually.
  • Manages annual work budget, estimates material and labor costs, and submits purchase requests as needed to school director.
  • Performs and/or schedules preventative maintenance on equipment regularly
  • Safely use chemicals and cleaning agents.
  • Follow MSDS guidelines and precautions.


Requirements:

Qualifications, Experience, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Proven working experience as custodian and maintenance.
  • Experience with carpentry and painting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Integrity and ability to work independently.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Comfortable being around children
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Friendly and positive presentation
  • Attention to detail
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized and dependable
  • Flexibility – ability to shift work priorities throughout the day

Physical demands:

Under normal circumstances the employee will need to have the physical capacity to continuously use his/her hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation. The employee may be required to do the following:

  1. Physically able to bend, stand, stoop, or sit for long periods of time.
  2. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  3. Push / Pull up to 25 lbs.
