Remote Camp Cook Overview:


The Remote Camp Cook orders groceries, plans and prepares meals for project workers.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Estimates food requirements and orders food from supplier or through the designated Project Manager and procures food from storage.
  • Works in concert with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager(s) for all food ordering.
  • Analyzes and estimates food requirements for camp population.
  • Maintains weekly inventory control to ensure efficient operation.
  • Prepares all food items as required for the workers in a sanitary and timely manner.
  • Ensure that food waste is avoided by appropriate planning of menus/recipes and communicating with the Site Superintendent on meals needs based on the daily manpower in the camp.
  • Follows recipes and portion controls as necessary for the crew.
  • Reviews special dietary needs for crew members.
  • Restocks all items.
  • Follows all company protocols for Covid 19.
  • Cleans and maintains kitchen and dining area in practicing good safety, sanitation, and organizational skills.
  • Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all areas of the camp.
  • Properly uses and maintains all equipment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises the Housekeeper.

Education and/or Experience:
  • 5 years' experience within a kitchen setting with volume production (required).
  • Solid understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills.
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to obtain Food Workers Card http://www.dec.alaska.gov/eh/fss/fwc/fwc_home.html
  • Well-groomed and willing to follow dress requirements.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to create, update, and manage menus to be submitted to the designated Project Manager (s), weekly.
  • Must demonstrate a good attitude and the ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Must have a knowledge base to properly use and maintain all equipment.
  • Position requires self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be able to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment, and have a strong attention for detail.
  • Understanding of professional cooking and food handling skills.
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with any and all alternate cooks to plan menus and orders.
  • Must be proficient in MS work, Excel, and outlook.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Certification from college or technical school.
  • Food Workers Card
  • Driver's License

Work Environment:


Work is performed primarily indoors in a camp kitchen, heated/freezer environment. Some exposure to weather conditions while working outside of the restaurant when performing other tasks on the facility.
