Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Journal Salesto join our team in the evolving world of academic publishing. This role is pivotal in fostering partnerships with educational institutions, consortia, and private foundations, contributing to the growth of Open Access in academic publishing.

Role and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will have full responsibility for managing renewals and driving new business in both the public and private sectors, including universities and libraries. You will be expected to create adaptive strategies that respond to market changes, enhance product visibility, and drive revenue growth. Keeping abreast of market trends and competitor activities will be crucial to maintaining a competitive edge and providing valuable insights to influence strategic decisions.

Key Activities:

Your role will involve strategic planning and targeting key library markets, using tools like SalesForce.com. Business travel is a significant component, as you will represent the company at industry conferences, meetings, and make sales visits to libraries. Building and maintaining strong relationships with authors, customers, and internal stakeholders is essential for high-quality service and professional brand representation.

Qualifications:

Candidates may hold a Bachelor's degree with a solid academic background and have a minimum of 5 years of experience in journal sales, preferably in higher education publishing or a related field. Experience managing a sales team and in depth knowledge of transformative agreements are is essential. A deep knowledge of open access, including OA funding, policy developments, and publishing workflows, will be highly beneficial.The person in this role will have astrong work ethic, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to ethical business practices are crucial.

Compensation at Sage is influenced by several factors, including but not limited to skill set, nature and level of experience, qualifications, and other relevant considerations. The salary range for this position is $114K - $142K.Please note that the compensation details listed in U.S. role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonuses or benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the additional aspects of the compensation/benefits package for this position during the hiring process.
