CASA in Action supports candidates that advance its membership’s priorities through electoral programming that get immigrants and voters of color out to vote.

DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:

The Civic Engagement Department, mobilizes community members to create long-term improvements in their neighborhoods and lives through collective direct action, voter education and mobilization.

POSITION SUMMARY:

CASA is seeking part-time Civic Engagement Canvasser to lead our direct voter engagements, primarily by providing information to targeted Rockville voters regarding the “Rockville Referendum” with the aim of expanding the right to vote to all residents of Rockville.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Civic Engagement Canvasser, who is based in Montgomery County, Maryland, and reports to the Field Coordinator, is responsible for the following:

  • Civic Engagement: Conducts daily voter contact work; persuades and mobilizes voters to support the referendum. Enters and reports conversation data accurately and in a timely manner. Stays well-informed of the latest relevant news and campaign talking points, including issues impacting communities.
  • Team Building and Daily Reports: Actively participate in daily canvass launches and debriefs; share key findings from voter conversations with team members. Provide feedback on voter conversation best practices and script guidance, after voter interactions, to help teams achieve highest quality engagements with target voters. Complete qualitative field reports to capture voter details that benefit our campaign efforts.
  • Additional Tasks: Verifies functionality of all assigned canvassing equipment as work day begins and be prepared with all needed campaign supplies, including CASA T-shirt, canvasser bag, and campaign literature. Recruits voters to participate in volunteer canvass activities and campaign events. Reports, to the Civic Engagement Coordinator, all on-field emergency and non-emergency incidents that may occur. Collects media content while engaging with voters to share with Communications staff and lift up voices of impacted voters. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

We’re seeking candidates who excel in team environments, are results-oriented, and have strong communication skills. You should have:

  • Ability to perform all of the duties outlined above;
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends
  • A valid US Driver’s License and own car, preferred
  • Experience working with immigrant or low-income communities, a plus
  • Ability to work with a team and independently
  • Exude high energy in a fast-paced environment
  • A demonstrated commitment to meeting a high bar, being timely and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles
  • Excellent writing and conversational skills
  • Proficiency in data entry tasks
  • Attention to detail to ensure all work is polished, accurate and precise
  • Fluency in Spanish, preferred
  • Commitment to social change and to furthering CASA’s mission of lifting up the voices of Black and brown immigrants and working-class people, with the result of building power, improving lives, and creating a more just society
