Nurse Aid

00Primary Purpose:

The person in this position is a member of the H4 Medical Respite team where each team member plays an integral role in providing care to Respite patients. S/he is responsible in assisting the provider(s) and the team in the overall coordination, preparation, examination and treatment of the patient. S/he will perform the minimum competency requirement for a medical assistant/nurse aide. Perform administrative and clinical duties.

Essential Duties:

· Taking patient medical histories

· Explaining treatment procedures to patients

· Preparing patients for examination

· Assisting the providers during exams

· Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens

· Performing basic laboratory tests

· Instructing patients about medication and special diets

· Preparing and administering medications as directed by a provider

· Transmitting prescription refills as directed

· Taking electrocardiograms

· Removing sutures and changing dressing

· Using computer applications

· Answering telephones

· Greeting patients

· Updating and filing patient medical records

· Coding and filling out insurance forms

· Scheduling appointments

· Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services

· Other duties as assigned

Regular and reliable on-site attendance is required.

Other Duties:

· Perform other related duties as assigned

· Observe safety and security procedures; determine appropriate actions beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Education:

· High School Diploma/GED

· Current unexpired Nurse Aide Certification preferred

· One-year certificate from an accredited Nurse Aide program preferred

· Current BCLS/CPR

Experience:

· Previous experience with basic computer systems required

· Knowledge of basic medical terminology required

· Bi-lingual preferred

Skills/Knowledge:

· Performs other related duties as assigned

· Demonstrates excellent customer services to patients and/or providers and promotes positive image of H4

· Provides feedback for quality improvement activities

· Answers phones within reasonable amount of time and take accurate messages.

· Be open to feedback during evaluations and other times. Demonstrate willingness to improve job performance as necessary.

· Maintains and improves personal competence.

· Observes safety and security procedures; determine appropriate actions beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly

Work Hours: Shifts from 7am-7pm, 7pm-7am, or 10am-6pm.

Must be willing to work the occasional holidays, evenings/nights, and weekends.

Hours and days may vary based on the needs of the organization
