JOB SUMMARY:

The Household Staff Nurse at Pioneer Care performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in a nursing capacity. The Household nurse frequently assumes a lead position of a household on any given shift or primary medication distribution nurse on any given shift. The Household Staff Nurse may on occasion and when directed by their supervisor, perform any duties on any shift for which she/he is qualified.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

2. Current Practical Nurse License or Registered Nurse License in the State of Minnesota.

3. Currently certified in CPR

4. Experience in Gerontological Nursing helpful and preferred.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

A. Major Responsibilities

1. Regular, consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

2. Assists the health team in the nursing process as directed by the Care Coordinator.

3. Responsible for taking and/or giving report at the beginning and ending of each shift.

4. Administers medications and therapeutic treatments as prescribed.

5. Receives physician orders, implements orders as prescribed, monitors and reports outcomes.

6. Documents and reports to the Care Coordinator the residents’ response to plan of care.

7. Reports to the Care Coordinator and/or resident's physician appropriate observations of symptoms, reactions and/or changes in the physical or emotional condition of the resident. If giving direct resident care, will report these conditions to the Care Coordinator or RN facility supervisor.

8. Carries out facility policies and procedures and interprets same to subordinates, residents and families of residents. Household Staff Nurses should be willing to
assist in the development and revision of facility policies.

9. Will contact resident's physician and family member of significant change in condition of the resident.

10. Maintains knowledge of resident and Vulnerable Adult rights and how they can be administered and/or fulfilled in long term care.

11. Understands and complies with Minnesota specified scope of practice.

2. Employee is personally responsible for own continued development in his/her profession through in-service and continued education provided by the facility and as
deemed necessary by the employee for his/her personal satisfaction. Attendance and participation in staff/nursing department meetings.

3. Will assume and perform other duties or responsibilities in the nursing profession for which the employee is qualified as assigned by the Care Coordinator, RN
Supervisor on duty, or the Director of Nursing.

4. May be expected to train other nursing personnel in specific procedures and/or skills.

5. Will work collaboratively with other disciplines/care providers.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employee will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from residents and specimens in working environment, employee may be required to work extended periods of time. Incumbent may experience traumatic situations as the resident move through the end of life cycle.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

This position required intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching as well as lifting and supporting residents.


EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This position will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, mandates, call in).
