Job Description
Frontier Cooperative is seeking an Operations Specialist to assist in our Seed Shed and Agronomy Plant at our Yanka/David City, NE location. In this role, the Ops Specialist supports the Operations departments with performing daily operations in and around the Seed/Agronomy plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will receive required training from programs such as Confined Space Entry, LOTO, First Aid Awareness, Mobile Equipment & obtain necessary Equipment Certifications prior to use. This position is being offered as full-time with benefits.
Operations Specialist for the Seed Shed and Fertilizer Plant is responsible for a variety of different duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist with plant operations such as receiving, loading & unloading grain trucks, frequently; blending & loading Agronomy products like chemicals & fertilizers, frequently. Assist the Seed Department in receiving, loading and delivering seed.
- Provide exceptional customer service to our patrons, customers, & employees in a courteous & professional manner; assist customers with purchasing bulk fertilizers, chemicals, & seed; load and/or deliver products for customers, when needed.
- Operate the payloader & load out computer systems.
- Assist in monitoring & maintaining product quality; conduct & help manage fertilizer and seed inventories; assist with grain & agronomy inventories; assist with daily movement of fertilizers & grain within facilities, as needed.
- This position cross-trains with other positions within the Dry/Liquid/Seed plants/scale operations & other FC locations, when needed.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, legs, & facilities.
- Handle grain & fertilizers in a safe manner that maintains quality, avoids unnecessary damage, & prevents accidents; ensure the accuracy of mixing chemicals & fertilizers; & assist with blender operations.
- Deliver products such as fertilizer, chemical, seed, etc. to customers, businesses, & other FC locations using company-owned vehicles.
- Perform warehouse & other agricultural-related duties such as operating tractors, machinery, forklifts, loaders, bobcats, etc.
- Help perform routine maintenance, housekeeping & repair of buildings, grounds, vehicles, & equipment (& complete required documentation); verify through pre-trip inspections that company vehicles, equipment & machinery are in good working order prior to use.
- Observe, recognize & follow all Safety Procedures. At Frontier, every employee is responsible for identifying & communicating workplace hazards. Employees must work safely at all times & complete all required safety training in a timely manner.
- Assist with loading/unloading trains.
Skills needed to be successful include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Work with seed vendors, manage inventory, and schedule seed deliveries.
- Maintenance on seed tenders, seed legs, and all other seed equipment.
- The ability to think clearly, take initiative, & problem-solve; be dependable & responsible; as well as read, write, & communicate the English language.
- Be computer-saavy & mechanically-inclined; have the ability to operate (or learn how to operate) loaders, forklifts, conveyors, tractors, farming equipment & other machinery.
- Physically, this position is expected to climb in and out of trucks, climb high ladders (such as bin ladders & up/down legs); open/close trailer hoppers; have the ability to sit, stand, stoop, squat, walk, crawl, run, jog, reach, bend, twist, kneel, crouch, etc., as needed. The employee will need to lift up to 75lbs. frequently & maneuver on & off trailers or platforms.
- This position works in & around grain, agricultural chemicals & fertilizers, dust, & both inside & outside in Nebraska’s adverse weather conditions and temperatures.
- Must have a Class A CDL or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License. Frontier Cooperative will provide training & testing for the right applicant.
- Nebraska Commercial Applicator License with General Use and Seed Treatment Category.
- Ability to work long & irregular hours to meet business demands during spring planting and harvest.
- Must possess the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen test.
- Farming, grain-handling, chemical or fertilizer &/or elevator experience is helpful, but not necessary.
- Maintain & promote a positive image & desire to be part of the cooperative.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will receive required training from programs such as Confined Space Entry, LOTO, First Aid Awareness, Mobile Equipment & necessary Certifications, Housekeeping, etc. All positions will follow training under Company Guideline Requirements.
