Job Description
This position is key to the Railroad and under the supervision of the General Manager directs all activities involved in marketing, sales, and is the primary customer contact. Direct sales and marketing functions are key activities. Develop existing and new customer action plans, coordinate and deliver proposals, and lead rate negotiations. Coordinate company resources in fulfilling customer requirements, ensuring customer satisfaction, and achieving assigned revenue, volume, and business development targets.
Position Responsibilities:
Develop and execute account sales strategy.
Manage the day-to-day account activities and facilitate the coordination of internal resources.
Assess and mitigate key risks.
Develop creative solutions to expand GLC’s participation in relevant markets
Identify and secure key business development opportunities.
Develop relationships and effectively communicate with customers.
Gather market and customer intelligence and ensure it is communicated to key internal personnel.
Develop, and negotiate approved market-based rates with customers and connecting carriers.
Develop a working relationship with other railroads, as appropriate.
Understand and develop knowledge of routings and services.
Represent GLC before government officials, state legislators, and economic/industrial/commercial development leaders to promote business development.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Professional sales experience managing accounts.
2-5 years of railroad experience preferred.
Transportation knowledge is an asset.
Experience with the development of pricing, tariffs, quotes, and commercial regulation within the railroad industry.
Understanding of company products and services.
Cognizance of key market segments.
Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing.
Comprehension of supply chain logistics.
In-depth knowledge of national and international trade business.
