Host acquired Avondale Shipyard in 2018 from Huntington Ingalls Industries. Avondale is a historic property, located along the Mississippi River in New Orleans, LA, with a footprint of 254 acres and significant warehousing and storage capabilities. With five docks and over one mile of waterfront, the Avondale Shipyard will become integral to Host’s continued efforts to provide REAL solutions to customers and shift the transportation paradigm. Host plans future connectivity for the shipyard to six Class 1 Railroads via the New Orleans Public Belt, through a binding Cooperative Endeavor Agreement entered into with the Port of New Orleans.

The Person: The successful candidate will have the following behaviors and demonstrate the competencies below.

Position Description: Install, maintain, diagnose and repair equipment/instrumentation related to the unloading, loading, transfer and storage of cargo including conveying equipment, motors, GE drive, PLC’s, VFD’s, associated wiring and power supplies, ship loader, and various support equipment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • You will be responsible for performing electrical preventative maintenance and repairs on overhead cranes, gantry cranes, bridge cranes, storm water drain pumps, sewage pumps, generators, building lights, and all terminal equipment.
  • Trouble- shooting equipment malfunctions.
  • Consulting with the customer (operation) on repair and safety related issues.
  • Assist in high voltage outage and preventative maintenance.
  • Assist in mechanical repairs when needed.
  • Support the modernization project.
  • Work from blueprints, wiring schematics, manuals, or verbal instructions.
  • Complete work in a safe and timely manner in compliance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Perform routine inspections on assigned equipment and report finding in accordance with policy and procedures

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Electrical experience on the following:
    • 480V/240V AC 3 phase motor contactor control circuits both squirrel cage and wound rotor.
    • 480/240/120/48/24-volt AC/DC relay and contactor circuits, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), and PLC.
    • Mechanical: Medium to large drive couplings, brakes, and reduction gearboxes.
  • Read and understand the blueprints, wiring schematics, and manuals.
  • Be able to use the electrical instrument to check for voltage, current, resistor, capacitor, and inductor.
  • Safely operate various types of equipment related to movement and transporting of bio-mass product as dictated by customer needs and requirements.
  • Participate in and successfully complete required training and related testing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as there is extensive customer contact.
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Perform any other terminal functions as trained, requested and instructed by supervision.
  • Willingness to work extra hours or flexible schedule.
  • Hold a current driving license.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
  • The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and work at protected heights up to 130 feet.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Perform work in dusty environment and all types of temperature/weather conditions
