Position Title: Chief Development Officer

Reports to: Executive Committee of the Board

Position: Full-Time, Exempt

Location: Remote within the U.S., 25% travel. Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Salary: $100,000 - 120,000 plus performance based annual bonus, health and wellness stipend and generous time off.

About Tractors for Africa

Tractors for Africa (TFA) has been offering dependable tractor services, as well as providing seeds and fertilizers on a credit basis to farmers in West Africa since 2016. They've supplied all the essential resources necessary for farmers to significantly boost their crop yields in a market-oriented approach. This has resulted in a 2.2-fold increase in income for their 1,000 farmer clients and has paved the way for enhancing food security, fostering skill development, and progressing towards sustainable agricultural practices. Their objective is to achieve economic viability (profitability), enabling them to expand their services to hundreds of thousands of farmers in need.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO the Chief Development Officer (CDO) at Tractors for Africa, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the organization's fundraising efforts. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing strategies to secure funding, partnerships, and resources to support the organization's mission of improving agricultural practices in Africa through the distribution of tractors and related equipment. The CDO will work closely with the executive team and other key stakeholders to achieve financial sustainability and growth. The CDO will be responsible for growing fundraising results annually to realize overall growth from $1M to $3M within 3 years.

We are looking for an experienced US-based fundraising leader to define and develop a fundraising strategy with a focus on major gifts, institutional giving and corporate partnerships. The CDO will build fundraising infrastructure, policies and procedures and work closely with existing and new board members to identify and cultivate major donors with capacity to give between $10,000 and $250,000.

Requirements

Fundraising Strategy:

• Create and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with Tractors for Africa's mission and long-term objectives.

• Identify potential funding sources, which may include grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, and philanthropic partnerships.

• Recommend and implement a CRM system that will assist you with maintaining an accurate donor database.

• Identify, cultivate and solicit major donors.

• Annual fundraising target is $750,000 in existing support and $250,000 in new support.

Grant Writing and Management:

• Draft and submit grant proposals, ensuring they are consistent with the organization's initiatives and priorities

• Oversee the management of existing grants, including reporting and compliance requirements

Partnership Development:

• Identify and establish partnerships with other organizations, NGOs, and government entities to advance the organization's mission and objectives

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with current/potential sponsors and high-net-worth individual donors

Strategic Planning:

• Contribute to the development of the organization's overall strategic plan

• Collaborate closely with the executive team to align development strategies with the organization's mission and vision

Public Relations, Marketing, and Awareness:

• Serve as the organization's representative at public events, conferences, and meetings to promote its mission and vision.

• Contribute to marketing efforts for outreach initiatives and other promotional and branding needs

• Assist in public relations and awareness-building efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise

• Bachelor's degree in a related field; a master's degree is preferred or an equivalent combination of experience and professional development.

• 5-7 years of experience soliciting Major Gifts in a non-profit organization. Track record of managing at least 100 donors and prospects, consistently securing gifts in the five-and six-figure range.

• Demonstrated experience in fundraising, major gifts, grant writing, and development leadership, particularly in a nonprofit or NGO context.

• Strong financial acumen and budget management abilities

• Proficient in collaborating with diverse stakeholders. High degree of cultural sensitivity and proven ability to engage with stakeholders internationally.

•. Proficiency in building and managing multi-stakeholder relationships and collaborations

•. Maintain and operate within approved budget constraints

•. Results-focused with a focus on opportunities that offer national exposure and maximum impact

• Excellent written, oral, and public speaking skills, with the capacity to communicate effectively across all channels

Location and Compensation

•. This is a work-from-home position based in the US, with up to 25% travel, nationally and internationally (Ghana, UK).

•. Starting salary for this position is $100,000 - $120,000, with an additional annual performance-based bonus and a health and wellness stipend.

• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and reside in the United States.
