Group Fitness Instructor (temporary, part-time) - Campus Recreation at Yates Field House - Georgetown University

Research indicates that regular participation in well-designed physical education lessons that support the holistic development of students can enhance the physical literacy of students. Exercise can be an effective component of a stress-management program, and all types of exercise can be beneficial for stress-management. Collegiate recreation participation may hold the key to academic performance; recent studies show a rise in students' GPA and likelihood of graduation as their exercise and physical activity behaviors increased.

As the primary recreation and fitness provider for the Georgetown University community, the department of Campus Recreation at Yates Field House and Kehoe Field provides fitness and wellness programs and spaces for Georgetown students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community members.

Job Overview

The Group Fitness Program provides students and members with an opportunity to participate in a variety of group fitness offerings that encourage and support a healthy lifestyle in a fun environment.

Georgetown University Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for designing and leading members through safe and effective workouts. Personable and self-motivate, they have a passion for helping individuals achieve their fitness goals, and possess knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, group class structure, proper form, and cueing.

Supporting Georgetown University's cura personalis (care of the whole person), the Group Fitness Instructor offers individualized attention to participants, providing a unique exercise opportunity.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Fitness and Wellness, the Group Fitness Instructor - in temporary, part-time role - interacts with their peers in addition to Georgetown University faculty and staff, allowing them to become a positive influence in the community, encouraging individuals to partake in a holistic, healthy lifestyle.

Requirements and Qualifications

* Engaging and self-motivated with a passion for helping individuals achieve their fitness goals * Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills * Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, group class structure, proper form, and cueing * Successful completion of Group Fitness/Exercise Instructor course and a national certification from a reputable certifying organization - i.e., ACE, AFAA, Zumba, Mad Dogg) * First Aid/CPR/AED certification
