Job Summary:

The Chief Nursing Officer, CNO, has full responsibility for leading all patient care services for Pipeline Health and approved affiliates by providing the leadership, strategic guidance, and management direction necessary to fulfill the organization’s patient-centered mission. In collaboration with the Senior Leadership team, the CNO is responsible fulfilling the hospital’s mission to provide quality care by participating in strategic planning, resource allocation and evaluating/improving patient outcomes. Additionally, the CNO will serve as a highly- visible leader and strong advocate for nurses within Pipeline Health, its approved affiliates, and the local community.

The CNO will be expected to formulate and implement strategic and tactical plans to achieve and maintain excellence in patient care, operating results, and financial performance. The CNO will promote a positive image, enhance nursing, medical staff, and community relations, and deliver high quality patient care while coordinating with Pipeline Health leaders to achieve an integrated and efficient healthcare delivery system. The CNO will serve as a highly visible leader and strong advocate for nursing professionals within the local community, with state and local governmental agencies, business, and healthcare professional organizations, as well as local and regional nursing schools.

Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:

Participate with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff and clinical areas in development and ongoing review of the hospital’s mission, strategic plans budget, resource allocation, and operational plans and policies.

Develop, implement, and ensure the consistent practice of current and evidence-based nursing care to patients and their families.

Stay abreast of contemporary, innovative, and patient-centered professional nursing practices.

Foster an environment of respect and dignity for patients, families, and caregivers.

Foster an environment of continuous learning and curiosity.

Assume responsibility for effective fiscal management of patient care departments to ensure proper utilization of financial resources.

Lead nursing practice and patient care such that continuous improvement is made toward achieving top decile performance in patient safety, clinical quality, and patient experience and

associate engagement outcomes.

Foster an environment of caring for our caregivers and ensuring a just culture is in place.

Effective communication to ensure that information is shared for effective, efficient operations and to promote positive employee relations.

Develop and maintain excellent partnership, communication and professional relationships with the medical staff and all other disciplines.

Support and maintain expertise in leading a high-reliability patient safety organization.

Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.

Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.

Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.

Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.

Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.

Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.

Completes and attends monthly training assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Prior experience in a High Reliability organization is a plus.

Significant experience leading external key stakeholders in addition to internal resources.

Five (5) years managerial experience in a clinical setting.

Five (5) Years experience as a Registered Nurse, RN.

Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.

A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.

Education:

MSN, MHA, MBA preferred

Licensure/Certifications:

The current professional RN license issued and/or recognized by the state Board of Nursing for the State of employment. BLS and ACLS from AHA. PALS or ENPC certification is required within 6 months of hire. TNCC preferred.

National Leadership/Professional Certification preferred.
