Job Objective: The Resident Monitor is responsible to ensure the integrity of the program, philosophy, and standards of an effective shelter for homeless families are maintained. This included supervision and coordination of the shelter staff and residents.

Essential Functions:

  • Reside full time at The Salvation Army Crossroads Family Shelter
  • Enforce all overall security and safety of the facility
  • Conduct shift room checks as requested
  • Respond appropriately to any resident's emergency needs
  • Complete work orders as needed
  • Complete overnight facility inspections
  • Complete daily and monthly paperwork as assigned
  • Assist with any room preparations, cleaning, and laundry
  • Assist case manager and social services director with shelter residents according to established schedules and guidelines
  • Enforce shelter policies and guidelines consistently
  • Assist with accepting and inventory of donations
  • Keep social services director informed of maintenance and supplies needs
  • Actively promote community relations representing the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Work as a team player with other staff accessing and responding to the needs of residents
  • Maintain appearance and safety of shelter according to shift list provided by social services director
  • Assist with fire drills and document all results
  • Attend all staff meetings as required
  • Attend in-service trainings
  • All other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer and Independence social services director

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; post high school education in social services or related studies preferred

Experience: Minimum two years of human services experience preferred; prior experience with homeless populations preferred

Certifications/Licenses: First Aid and CPR certifications required (within 90 days of employment)

  • Maintain residency in Salvation Army apartment at the Crossroads Shelter
  • Ability to comprehend, document, and converse in Standard English

  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills
  • Sound judgment and reasoning ability/skills
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Time management skills and ability to handle multiple demands and priorities
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse population
  • Emotionally mature and stable
  • Ability to provide visual oversight and observation

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Include speaking, hearing and vision ability; manual dexterity; bending, squatting and walking; lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds; standing up to 4 hours per day; sitting up to 4 hours per day. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Driving is required. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed during evening, overnight and weekend hours.
