OVERVIEW

The primary role of this position is to meet the logistical needs of on-campus transfers, local driving, regional driving, and optional OTR shipments. Will have truck on lease and assigned to selected driver.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS

• Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner and follow all rules and regulations.

• Performs pre-trip inspections on vehicle and reports any problems to the onsite Ryder & PFI automotive mechanic and/or takes equipment to the shop for repairs. DVIR required.

• Ensure trucks are fueled.

• Responsible for maintaining an E-log when applicable.

• Responsible for keeping the truck and trailers clean and organized.

• Tanker shipments within Michigan and to the tri-state area.

• Local shipments to and from Lansing, MI Grand Rapids, MI Benton Harbor, MI Coloma, MI Traverse City, MI and any other local shipments.

• Operate a B-Train trailer for seasonal needs to Grand Rapids, MI Traverse City, MI and Coloma, MI.

• Ensure load has the proper paperwork as to what is being transferred. Ensure proper securement and/or reefer settings.

• Take instruction from Transportation and Yard Supervisor and assist with transfers when needed.

• Ensure all product produced at Main Plant is transferred to OCFS (off season) at the end of shift. During season hand off paperwork to the 2nd shift driver.

• Occasionally transfer non-perishable items such as packaging supplies, equipment, etc. from plant to plant.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Zero Haz-Mat shipments. Will not be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education • High school graduate or equivalent

• Class A CDL required

• Must obtain tanker endorsement • Must obtain doubles endorsement

Work Experience

• 2 years minimum driving experience

• 2 years preferred manufacturing environment experience

Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of DOT safety regulations and ability to follow them properly.

• Safely drive Commercial Motor Vehicles & comply with all speed limits and laws.

• Ability to read, interpret and follow written job instructions.

• Ability to follow and comply with quality standards.

• Ability to comprehend and comply with GMP rules and Food Safety guidelines.

• May be required to obtain and maintain valid hi-lo license.

• Ability to work as contributing member within the team.

• Ability to frequently lift/move material weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to operate a PC (keyboard/mouse).

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Lifts material/product weighing up to 30 pounds frequently (with assistance); lifts material/product weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally (with assistance).

• Stands, walks, uses hands/fingers to handle or feel, uses hands/arms to reach, sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, and crawls while performing functions of position.

• Constant mental and visual alertness (including peripheral vision and depth perception) required to avoid serious injury to self and others and to perform quality functions of position.

• Must use PPE within plants.
