Utopian Transport is looking for a shop mechanic to work full-time in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Hourly Rate: In lieu of experience $25.00-$35.00 an hour!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine and Repair Vehicle Equipment: Repair trucks, large diesel vehicles, road trailers, and all types of farm equipment.
  • Overhaul Vehicle Equipment: Overhaul equipment such as carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps as needed. Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, rewire and reline equipment.
  • Communication: Effectively present information to Manager. Problem solves issues or concerns and communicate effectively with drivers and other team members.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain an inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop

Essential Job Duties:

  • Repair equipment such as: tractors, trailers, potting machines, water pumps, forklifts, and irrigation. Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings. Repairs all mechanical malfunctions on all equipment.
  • As part of the overhaul process, remove units such as engines or transmissions.
  • Rewire ignition system, lights, and instrument panel. Relines and adjusts brakes, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and leaks in radiator.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Update and supply an in-service and out of service equipment list.
  • Track equipment mileage and hours and service equipment accordingly.
  • Make repairs to equipment as necessary, including some emergency repairs as required.
  • Replenish parts and supplies as they are consumed. Organize and label parts and supplies per piece of equipment.
  • Perform annual DOT inspections on equipment.
  • Regularly clean and organize shop and maintain safety standards per OSHA regulations.
  • Make decisions on when to dispose of aging equipment.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Secure shop and lock gas pumps prior to leaving each day.
  • Promote a safe work environment per policies and training put in place by the safety committee.
  • Uphold and promote company core values.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Small engine repair
  • Large Engine repair
  • Welding
  • DOT inspection protocol and execution
  • Organizational and tracking skills
  • Communication skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent degree
  • Required: 3-5 years shop management experience
  • Preferred: DOT inspection training and OSHA rules and regulation knowledge
  • Preferred: Diesel Mechanic, tractor, trailer and big rig experience
  • Preferred: Class A CDL is a plus
