Job Description

The Floor Care Technician may work in any location on Opelousas General Health System premises. This individual is under general direction to clean, maintain and perform floor care functions based on hospital standards such as waxing, stripping, buffing, and other duties according to regulatory requirements. The general responsibilities of this position include those listed below, but management from Environmental Service Director may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among areas and/ or units within Opelousas General Health System, depending on business and patient care necessities, organizational requirements and applicable recommendations from regulatory agencies. The Floor Care Technician must be able and willing to work flexible hours. Finally, the Floor Care Technician should help to administer and coordinate programs within the framework of the established policies, performs tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with the safety and health programs, assists in training and maintenance of a safe workplace for all staff within the Opelousas General Health System.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Promotes the mission, vision, values, and standards of the organization

• Cleans all ancillary areas within assigned unit, including trash pulling, sanitizing high touch surfaces

• Trained as Floor Care Technician to help as needed when requested for this position

• Performs minor floor care buffing hard surface, shampooed carpets, and spot cleaning

• Performs general cleaning of patient care areas, ancillary areas, office and restrooms including general floor care

• Maintains upkeep of organization, which includes floor care and custodial duties

• Provides floor care utilizing machines (automatic and mechanical) for floor care duties

• Completes work assignments in a timely manner

• Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure

• Uses and maintains all equipment properly and safely

• Observes safety precautions at all times, uses safety signs “wet floor”

• Reports safety hazards as appropriate

• Responds to call of Doctors Lift on patient care areas

• Utilizes 7 Cleaning Steps when appropriate:

o Pulls trash/ linen from area

o High Dusts all horizontal surfaces in area

o Damp wipes/ spot cleans walls/ and checks while replenishing all dispensers in area

o Cleans bathroom

o Dust mops the entire area

o Damp mops the entire area

o Inspects area for completion of all assignments

• Floor Care Tasks:

o Sweeps & mops tile floors

 Sets up caution signs, dust mops and damp mops, spot cleans baseboards

o Vacuums carpeted floors

 Sets up caution signs, runs cord along baseboard, spot cleans stains

o Buffs tile floors

 Sets up caution signs, dust mops and damp mops, sprays buff, dust mops

o Burnishes Tiled Floors

 Sets up caution signs, dust mops, damp mops (or scrubs), burnishes floors, dust mops

o Bonnet Carpeted Floors

 Sets up caution signs, vacuum floors, bonnet/spray bonnet, dry floors (fan)

o Extracts Carpeted Floors

 Sets up caution signs, vacuum floors, extract floors, dry floors (fan)

o Scrubs Tile Floors

 Sets up caution signs, dust mop, applies solution, scrubs, damp mops

o Auto Scrubs Floors

 Sets up caution signs, dust mops, auto scrubs, spot mops

o Strips and Waxes Floors

 Sets up caution signs, dust mops, prepares solution for stripping and waxing, detail cleans areas, waxes floors, dry floors (fan)

• Properly and safely uses cleaning chemicals per manufacturer and OGHS Environmental Services Department with direction from

Infection Control Department

• Empties trash, garbage containers and bio-hazardous containers (3/4 full)

• Replenishes all supplies throughout the organization

• Changes linens and replenish linens for all discharge patient rooms

• Completion of floor care duties within following areas:

o Patient Care Rooms and Areas (including Nourishment Stations, Nurses Stations, Clean and Soiled Utility Rooms, Medicine Rooms,

and Supply Closets)

o Obstetrician Rooms and Areas (including C-Section Suite)

o Surgical Rooms and Areas (including Operating Rooms, Central Sterile, Decontamination, Special Procedure, and Locker Rooms)

o Laboratory, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, Respiratory Areas, and all ancillary areas

• Notifies supervisor concerning need for major or minor repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment

• Records work completed on Area Assignment Checklist daily and returns to supervisor’s area

• Polices assigned areas at the beginning of each shift, responds to Housekeeping pages, and performs other tasks as assigned by

Supervisor

• Performs routine equipment maintenance, makes minor repairs with direction from Environmental Supervisor and Environmental

Services Assistant Director

• Moves furniture and sets-up tables and chairs for functions within the organization

• Routine reporting of all concerns and issues on unit to Environmental Services Supervisor

• Responds to all fire and codes for the organization.

• Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures

• Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner, with detailed documentation

• Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments

• Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work

• Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures & regulatory requirements directed by governance for

department and Opelousas General Health System

• Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated

• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintain personal networks, participate in professional organizations

Education; High School Diploma/GED preferred
