Job Description
The medical assistant is responsible for collaboration with the nursing and provider staff in supporting primary care of the patient. This individual must be capable of prioritizing and organizing tasks related to patient care. The medical assistant is expected to support the Company’s mission and adhere to Company policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal regulations. He/she is expected to demonstrate superior interpersonal skills, facilitation of support and patient care tasks as part of the patient care team, and effective teamwork. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for the MEDICAL ASSISTANT II. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Maintain appropriate written and electronic patient medical record within scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with student nurses and educators during training at HKH.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings.
  • Support plan of care for patients that includes follow up on referrals to outside resources, prescription refills, laboratory orders, and health maintenance and prevention tracking.
  • As assigned: Ensures timely processing of new applications and submission of Worker’s Comp. treatment plans that are complete and accurate and in compliance with State Regulations, follows up to coordinate all Concurrent Care Requests for authorization and makes appointments as needed.
  • Maintains clinic supplies, medication room stocking and elimination of expired medications, and stocking of clinical exam room.
  • Maintains medical instruments, including autoclave procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in all aspects of maintenance support tasks and patient care.
  • Documents appropriately in the patient record.
  • Provides on-site laboratory services and maintains all controls and records.
  • Facilitates process for quality specialty medical diagnostic and therapeutic services to be available to patients via appropriate referral and tracking for follow-up.
  • Participates in patient care equipment maintenance and quality monitoring.
  • Assists the LPN staff to provide professional education and hands on experience for nursing and other students.
  • Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

  • High School Diploma
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Medical Assistant Certification required
  • Previous medical assistant/back office assistant experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Maintains appropriate First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Complies with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Utilizes universal precautions.
  • Prioritize patient care and manage patient flow for maximum efficiency and optimum care provision.
  • Demonstrate appropriate utilization of electronic medical record to document care within nursing scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of ambulatory patient care, electronic medical record and appropriate documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Capacity to work effectively with different types of people with diversity of age and culture.
  • Demonstrate above average organizational capabilities.
  • Demonstrate above average teamwork capabilities.
