Career Title: State Government Affairs Coordinator

Department: Policy & Government Affairs

Salary Hiring Range: $60,000- 72,000 annually (paid bi-weekly)

NOTE: Competitive salary commensurate with experience

FLSA: Exempt

Union Dues are 1.44% of bi-weekly paycheck


Career Summary:

The Coordinator, State Government Affairs supports the advancement of the ANA State Government Affairs Program, contributing to the development and execution of strategies in response to state legislative challenges and opportunities. The role involves collaboration with the Associate Director, State Government Affairs and ANA’s Constituent State Nurses Associations (CSNAs). By working closely with various departments within the enterprise and building relationships with external stakeholders, the coordinator plays a critical role in propelling ANA’s advocacy agenda forward.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Policy, Political Science, or related field.


Related Work Experience

2-3 years of experience in legislative tracking, government affairs, or a related field. Experience in organizing and coordinating meetings and events.

Skills

Ability to:

  • Analyze complex issues and legislation.
  • Conduct comprehensive environmental scans, develop strategy, and offer strategic advice and counsel on state legislative matters to ANA and CSNA leadership, staff, and members.
  • Organizational skills with an aptitude for managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Basic understanding of health policy and the legislative process.
  • Relates easily to diverse individuals and groups, lead coalitions and foster consensus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, and the ability to develop written reports, draft testimony and regulatory comments, and other documents of a technical nature.
  • Discretion, tact, and the ability to function as part of a team.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate occasional evening or weekend work meetings and periodic travel.

  • Legislative database and tracking tools experience
  • State legislative experience
  • Association experience

Work Schedule:

Hybrid employees must work a minimum of 20% in the office.
