The Office of the Insurance Commissioner?s (OIC) Consumer Advocacy Program Unit is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to fill an Insurance Technician 3 position.  This position is assigned to the Consumer Protection Division, located in our Tumwater office.

The Insurance Technician 3, assigned to the Consumer Advocacy Program, supports the mission of the Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) by advocating on behalf of consumers to ensure they are being fairly treated by insurance companies, educating the public on insurance matters, and applying insurance laws and rules to licensed insurance companies of the agency.

DUTIES
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Explain complex insurance rules and procedures, answer questions and resolve matters for property, casualty, life, health, and disability lines of insurance.
  • Respond to the most frequently asked questions from callers regarding SHIBA and Producer Licensing and Oversight program-related insurance issues.
  • Assist callers in navigating insurance information on the Consumer Protection Division webpages.
  • Assist consumers and companies troubleshoot online application issues.
  • Equitably distribute daily tasks and assignments to other Insurance Technicians on a rotational basis.
  • Ensure phone and live chat duties are covered to provide seamless customer service.
  • Perform clerical work as needed in the Consumer Resource Unit, such as, answering hotline and chat inquiries, scanning documents, mailing, faxing, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
 
You must qualify by one of the following means:
 
  • GED/Diploma and two years? experience as an or equivalent experience providing basic and general written or telephonic customer service and performing clerical duties in a call center or similar environment.

  • GED/Diploma and one year as an or equivalent experience providing authoritative and detailed written or telephonic customer service and performing clerical duties in a call center or similar environment.

  • Associate?s degree in business administration, public administration, or another applicable field. Degree must be from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education (CHEA), or foreign equivalent,
AND
 
  • Ability to accurately type or input at least a minimum of 40 words per minute.
 
*(Clerical and customer service experience includes duties such as answering multi line telephones, greeting customers, taking orders, or responding to questions, providing resolution to issues, filing, keeping records, data entry, processing mail, inventorying supplies, checking emails, typing and/or managing schedules or calendars, in an office setting.)
 
Preferred/Desired Qualifications of this position include:
 
  • Two years of experience entering and retrieving data from software systems or databases to respond to customer inquiries and to produce routine reports.
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate evidence of superior writing skills and a scrupulous attention to detail.
