A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE OFFICER

As an Environmental Compliance Officer, you work a typical Monday through Friday schedule.

In this crucial position, you are responsible for ensuring that our work remains in compliance with all relevant environmental regulations. Not only do you protect our company, but you help guarantee that our infrastructure projects are both safe and sustainable so that the public can rely on our work for years to come. With your detailed knowledge of state and federal permits, you conduct inspections of erosion and sediment control devices, verify limits of disturbance, and coordinate with client environmental management personnel.

Using your excellent written and verbal communication skills, you prepare daily reports to keep our project teams informed of all compliance considerations. You also prepare environmental permit applications, which include field delineation, impact assessment, and coordination with the relevant regulatory agencies. QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE OFFICER

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, natural resources, environmental studies, or a related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions

Knowledge and practical experience with the following are preferred, but not required:

  • Project team coordination
  • Construction methods and practices
  • Experience conducting plan reviews and reading construction specifications
  • Hazardous Materials
  • Highway Safety
  • Field experience in assessing natural resources
  • Field experience on construction projects
  • Environmental regulations, permitting, and agencies' roles
  • C-107 Construction Runoff Control Inspection Form (C-107)

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Erosion & Sediment Control Contractors Certification (ESCCC) in addition to other VDOT-specific certifications would be a plus.
