Position Summary:

Reports to: Director of Convention Services

The Convention Sales and Services intern will directly support the Convention Sales and Services department with tools needed to sell and service meetings and conventions hosting their events in Washington, DC. You will gain dedicated experience in meeting and convention customer relations, project management, hotel and venue knowledge.

Your Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Update static information via web research
  • Create correspondence between convention center clients
  • Research of competitors to develop strategic solicitations
  • Database updates
  • Organize field trips to unique venues
  • Brainstorm/research event trends and new ideas
  • Various project related work

What You Bring: Qualifications: Experience, Competencies, Education:

  • Completed at least one year of college; must be junior or senior year college students in Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Marketing, and Event Planning majors or relevant coursework required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational skills and ability prioritize task
  • Demonstrated interest in the travel and tourism economy, enthusiasm for Washington, DC
  • Eagerness to learn from a team of dynamic, engaged professionals working to promote Washington, DC and its vital hospitality and travel and tourism economy
  • Social media experience a plus
  • Previous internship experience a plus

Duration:

  • Commitment of one semester is required. The internship may be extended to the next semester at the agreement of the student and supervisor.
  • Interns must be able to commit at least 20 hours per week to the position.
  • Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-5pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.
  • Must have access to reliable computer and internet as position is hybrid and may require remote work.

Work Environment

This Intern will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum on the department's designated days (Monday & Tuesday). Intern may work from the office on other days, too. Intern must have reliable internet to work remotely.
