Winfield Rest Haven Inc in Winfield, KS is looking for one Director of nursing to join our 57 person strong team. We are located on 1611 Ritchie. Our ideal candidate is attentive, motivated, and hard-working.

Responsibilities

Job Classification: Exempt, Full-Time

Reporting Relationship: Administrator

 

Primary Accountabilities:

The Director of Nursing assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. In collaboration with facility administrator, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable each resident to attain or maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the facility.

 

Major Duties:

·        Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies and procedures that confirm to the current standards of nursing practice, facility philosophy, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

·        Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation.

·        Participates in all admissions decisions and ensures a pre-admission is completed with all necessary information and depending on circumstances visits the potential resident before admission.

·        Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate staff coverage on each unit. Oversees nursing schedule to assure the facility meets resident need, meets regulatory and budgetary standards.

·        Participates in daily and weekly management team meetings to discuss resident status,  census changes, personnel, risk management and grievances.  

·        Monitors complaint reports daily for allegations of potential abuse, neglect, or exploitation then reports to the administrator and initiates an investigation as per policy.

·        Communicates directly with residents, families, medical professionals, nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, to coordinate cares and services by overseeing the development of care plans.

·        Reviews daily reports to monitor and ensure timely and effective response to significant changes in condition, falls, unexplained injuries, behavioral episodes, medication errors, transfers, and discharges.

·        Establishes, implements, and monitors the Antibiotic Stewardship Program and Infection Control program and reviews the infection control surveillance reports to identify trends and to develop effective actions.

 

 

Major Duties Continued:

·        Is an active member of the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) team.

·        Coordinates on-going QAPI activities for nursing services to monitor nursing compliance with standards and regulatory requirements through rounds, interviews, and record reviews. Reports findings to QAPI committee.

·        Participates in the Survey Readiness Process and with preparation of the Plan of Correction response to a state inspection.

·        Coordinates and or supervises the Staff Development to implement competency skills with the nursing staff to ensure sufficient knowledge and skills to provide high quality.

·        Evaluates work performance of all nursing personnel and implements discipline according to operational policies.

·        Promotes compliance with accident prevention and safe work practices to prevent employee injury and illness and control worker’s compensation cost.

·        Acts in as administrative capacity in the absence of the administrator.

·        Supervises all department employees including: hiring, orienting, training, conducting performance evaluations, and providing counseling and discipline; coordinating and approving time off; and directing and managing the workflow of the department, all within community standards and guidelines

Required Qualifications:

·        Must possess a current Kansas license as Registered Nurse and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.

·        Two years of professional nursing experience in the long-term care setting is required

·        A minimum of two years experience in nursing administration or a comparable management position

·        Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills

·        Knowledge of Long-Term Care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development is required

·        Current CPR certification is needed.

·        Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to long-term care

·        Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities

·        Ability to make presentations before top management, public groups, and staff

·        Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

·        Ability to apply mathematical concepts as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

 

 

 

Physical Demands:

·        Risk for exposure to infectious disease

·        Ability to lift, pull, or push up to 25lbs

·        Be able to stoop, bend, stand, and set throughout the day

·        Travel to meetings on occasions

·        Must be able to work overtime

 

Work Environment:

  • Must be available on an “on-call” basis
  • Have a facility phone to be able to be summoned to facility under an emergency
  • Professional and deadline-oriented environment in a residential setting.
  • Interaction with older adults with varying levels of ability.
  • Team environment.
  • Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational.
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset family members, associates and visitors.
  • Possible exposure to infections, diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.
